Vincent made his way down the various side streets of the city. He had begun this as a sort of ritual, making sure that those without knew where they could find shelter. The sudden lack of children in the city had been noticed by Vincent. He could not help but feel chilled when wondering what was happening to them ( ... )

As the rain began to come down harder, she sighed. The gods were not pleased. Perhaps, that was why it rain here every night. It was the gods trying to tell their children that they were not pleased. They wept at what the citizens did from day to day. It was mere guess, but Fran had always held her religious thoughts, even in exile. Her heart had always been close to nature, and she still held love for the gods…though she was sure that the gods wept a few tears for her. She knew they would not be pleased with all she had done. Unfortunately, Fran knew she could not change the past or her lot in life…nor did she want to.

Her thoughts were disturbed by the sound of approaching boots on the stone street. Fran’s ears perked up and she turned her face slightly to get a glance at the man behind her.

"You should not stay in the streets for much longer Miss. If you do not shelter I can direct you to a safe place."There was something about this man. Fran senses overflowed with a feeling of eeriness and mystery. It almost sent a ( ... )

Vincent was caught off gaurd by the woman's maturity in her way of speaking. He felt slightly ashamed for mistaking her for a common person of the streets. She carried herself differently than most people, he feared for a moment he had run into a noble.

"I know of no safe places, especially in this city. The world is a dangerous place. There are no havens."

He felt the need to agree whole heartly with her, but reserved his comments. Perhaps there were no safe places, but he would do his best to create one for when Lucrecia was to return. He placed hope in that, if nothing else.

As the woman stepped closer to him he did not step back, but his body seemed to shy away from her slighly. Not out of fear, but more out of respect for her space.

"At least, you have concern and empathy in your heart. This is a rare thing for men here."Vincent shook his head quickly. "I am merely carrying out tasks that are right, nothing more than that. Good men are not at all rare, they are just merely shut away by the darkness." He paused , lowering ( ... )

Fran folded her arms. "I have heard," Fran replied, regarding the man's comment about the children.

...Maybe that was why it was raining so hard tonight.

Fran looked towards the rain, remembering her own childhood. She had been taught early on to take care of herself. Soon after she was able to walk, Fran had been given a bow and arrows to practice. Her childhood was filled with hunts and border watches with friends and her sisters.

"The children have no one. They are shunned, when they need protection. There are no teachers who are willing to show them what it takes to survive. In other places, this would not happen," Fran said, looking at the man's face, her voice was laced with frustration that was not directed at him.

Fran unfolded her arms. Her eyes studied the man once more. Why was there so much mystery surrounding him. No other person she had ever met carried such an aura.

Then, she nodded. "You know somewhere safe? I will go."

"In other places, this would not happen."

"I cannot say either way. My knowledge of the world does not pass beyond the city gates." He shrugged. He did not mean to sound ignorant infront of the woman, but sleeping for over twenty years had limited his life of travel. Now he was bound to the city by Hojo's chains of experimentation. He was quite sure he could not make it to the next village even if he wished it.

He felt the woman studying him. He didn't mind it so much, the children in the theatre often watched him when he was at work or sitting off by himself. He almost expected the woman to turn and walk away from him.

"You know somewhere safe? I will go."Vincent looked back up at her, betraying his surprise. Calmly nodding he turned and motioned her to follow. The theatre was not but a few blocks from here, but taking a few back alleys would make the trip a little longer than a walk down the street ( ... )

Fran followed behind the man as he led her down the street. The rain made her hair wet and heavy, as it clung to her head and face. With a finger, she brushed her hair away from her eyes. Wrapping her jacket around her, after walking a little ways.

When they turned a corner, Fran noticed that they were walking up to a door. She watched as the man opened the door, allowing her to enter first.

Fran stepped inside and found the darkness welcoming her. She ran her hands through her hair, in an attempt to style it instead of having it look stringy and straight.

She looked over at the man, as he walked inside. "My name is Fran," she said, before turning to look inside. "What is this place?"

Vincent shut the door behind them and slid the inside bolt into place. "I am Vincent Valentine. This is a theatre that was once owned by the Tantalus ( ... )

Fran watched as Vincent Valentine lit the lamps around the room, which gave the room a warm orange glow. The building was indeed in need of repairs. She took the towel that was offered and she placed the towel on her face. Gathering her hair, she pulled it around one shoulder and began drying her hair.

She heard the footsteps above her once more, and she directed her eyes to the ceiling and then back at Vincent.

“Tantalus,” she repeated. “I have heard rumors, but I did not know if it existed. Thieves I heard they were.” Fran placed the wet towel over a chair. “I myself am a thief…a pirate, actually. I was hoping to make myself useful. I have been without a partner for a few months, and time goes by slowly without company.”

Fran could hear and smell the water boiling. She pointed to the fire and looked at Vincent.

“What do you hope to do with this new Tantalus?” Fran questioned. “Perhaps, you could use my assistance.”

Vincent grabbed a few cups and a tin which was filled with herbs for a tea. He dristributed some into each cup then carefully took the kettle and poured both of them a cup of tea. The aroma relaxed him and took off the sharp mustiness of the theatre ( ... )

"I've seen many places and many things," Fran responded. "More than most."

Fran reached out for one of the cups and smelled the contents. She listened to the man's story with interest. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor was something Fran believed in whole heartily.

"The situation about the children is sad," Fran said. "I've never seen a city like this. Children are valued where I come from. They are the future...not us."

Fran took a sip of the hot tea, then she sat it down on the table. "I will help you and if you take on nobility, I believe you will need it. I'm very good with my hands. I can help with repairs, and I'm excellent with weapons, even though you claim secrets are more valuable than weapons. I still think weapons can give you an advantage, Mr. Valentine."
