Congratulations Mr. Bush

You've actually managed to piss of more conservatives than liberals with this one.My husband and I talked about this last night. The fact that he appointed a woman is unsurprising, butI expected it to be more comforting than this. The fact that he is appointing someone so woefully unqualified in judicial matters, especially on constitutional ( Read more... )

I am reliveed for the sake of RoevWade that it's not a super conservative... we think. Well hell if anyone knows, she's his personal lawyer! You think this might just be a sacrificial lamb to toss to the democrats so they have to approve the next one?

What honestly has me worried way more than with Roberts or any justice is that we know nothing about her. Yes Roberts had only been a Federal judge for a few years but he clerked for Reihquist and it is not unfathomable that his views would have been shaped by him.

The Bush camp has been quick to get folks out in the media to say "don't worry she is conservative" *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*. I think we are looking at the most conservative judge to hit the court in some time, perhaps in over a century. For Bush to describe her as a pit bull in size 6 shoes is a big statement. I have a feeling this is a big mistake. I think the fact that she is a woman with no record is just his way of sliding her in.

No I don't think she is a sacrifical lamb, most Democrats are seemingly quite relieved, it's the Republicans who should be worried.

Why should repubs be worried if she really is super conservative?

I am more worried about her competency than her conservativeness.

Plus, as a pro-choice Repub (and believe it or not there are quite a few of us, just as there are pro-life Dems) I am worried about Roe. Seriously worried.

You know, Rehnquist was never a judge before he sat on the Supreme Court...

I know, I am just so irritated he picked someone we know virtually nothing about...

Yup. He had to appoint her to give her a lifelong job because he'll only be in office the next couple of years.

I label that "patronage."

Our city is full of this shit.

They made a law to bar our county executive from doing this type of shit - he's hellamad now.
