Movin' on up!

Momma cat has moved her brood to new living quarters. Last evening she carried them into the staff entry room, which is just off the kitchen and is where many of the staff sit all day. This was probably a better idea than the cold concrete under a cargo pallet outside, but I think she'll be pretty displeased will all the sudden foot traffic that ( Read more... )

I am glad to see there is time for animal compassion in the middle of a war torn country. Do people have cats as pets there? Or are most cats on their own? Do they think you're nuts for caring? And like the other guy said...Please photos Iraqittens. . .

There is very little compassion for animals among Iraqis. A small percentage of them keep dogs for pets, but the Qu'ran calls dogs dirty and they stay outdoors. Very few keep cats, and they are street-living creatures akin to rodents. They do keep chickens and roosters, though. For food.

They do think I'm nuts for caring. :)

Actually, the Quran doesn't mention dogs, except in the context of the companions of the cave (look it up in Surah Kahf, the Cave). Their saliva is considered unclean though, which is why they aren't popular. But even then, we are not permitted to be cruel to them viz. the following 2 hadiths ( ... )

I'm not interested in speaking to the rightness of the war or the actions of soldiers. Just the same, the situation isn't as black and white as you make it out to be.
