Apparently a parent has complained about the teaching of Huck Finn in high school, so the school district has banned the book from class. This is an honors English class, by the way. I'm all against banning books but I do have to wonder on this. I wonder how much historical prep work the instructor did on the book or whether or not the instructor discussed the place of racism in the book with the students before reading it.

Likewise, the article reports that: "an African-American student in an honors English class objected to reading the book aloud" and I could certainly see how that could be problematic for the solitary black student to read about slavery and say "nigger" in front of a classroom of white students. It also says the book is only banned from being read aloud.
