Title: Contradiction
Author: Trinity
Pairing Starbuck/Showboat
Rating: um...R, just to be on the safe side
Spoilers to: Takes place during the Pegasus/Res Ship arc, but Showboat isn't actually introduced in canon till The Captain's Hand, so I guess that's a spoiler.
Word Count: 573
Summary: For Kara, it's all just a series of contradictions.
Author's Notes: Written for projectjulie, for the Starbuck round. It's always such a pleasure to write for you. I tried really, really hard to hit on what was in your requests! I really did! However, when the muses speak, you sort of can't stop it, you know? So you got a combination of your three requests. I managed to touch on the angst requested in one, the minor character requested in another, a believable premise (I hope!) and, of course, smut. Hope you enjoy!

This is pretty much unbetaed, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes.

Contradiction

Kara notices the softness.

She thinks she probably should have expected it, even from this woman who was almost as hard and calloused on the outside as she was. She's always enjoyed the initial discordance, the feeling of surprise at finding something gentle hidden within layers of tough skin and harsh emotion. When she is feeling particularly harsh herself, she will exploit it. Now, though, she just wants to feel it, again and again.

Showboat - Marcia, she said her name was - twists under the gentle pressure of Kara's hand on her stomach holding her to the thin mattress. The sound she makes is breathy and low, and Kara thinks this woman is such a contradiction and leans in to taste the softness again in long, torturous strokes. The warm flesh against her tongue makes her think of the chocolates she used to enjoy, the ones Zak would bring her. They were like this, almost, how she would crack the thin chocolate shell and close her eyes as the sugary-rich wetness flooded her tongue, letting the sweetness wash over her entire being, all her senses.

She closes her eyes now.

She can almost taste chocolate, and cherries.

And that's all she remembers. It's bliss.

*

'It's not unusual," Showboat says. They are laying at opposite ends of her bunk, passing a cigar back and forth, both in various stages of undress and post-frak afterglow. A bottle of ambrosia sits mostly-empty near their discarded clothing. Kara can still taste the sweetness that sits on her tongue, her lips. The end of the cigar handed over to her is damp, and she wonders if her own taste (her own contradiction) still lingers on the other woman's lips. Could she taste herself, from Marcia's lips to the cigar? She tongues it slightly, thoughtfully, but comes up with nothing. Showboat is still talking.

"--on a ship like this."

"Hm?" Kara's not paying much attention now, now that the adrenaline is fading and all that's left is the empty echoes in her head.

"I said it wasn't a big deal. This." Showboat reaches for the cigar and waves it around, emphasizing. "Happens all the time on a ship like this. Probably not so much on Galactica, huh?"

Kara shakes her head. She honestly can't remember the last time she frakked a woman. She can remember the last time she frakked anyone, though, and she wishes she couldn't. Her and her big frakking mouth.

Marcia shrugs. "Didn't think so. At least you've got a frakking decent crew. Or had, anyway. I don't know, I wouldn't do any of the men here even if they weren't too busy sticking it into that Cylon prisoner. But you gotta get it somewhere, you know?" She pauses, frowns for a second. 'It's safer this way."

From what Kara's seen of the Pegasus crew, she's not inclined to disagree. For some reason, Admiral Cain's presence hasn't done anything to tone down the stereotypical hormone-fueled Viper jock behavior. If anything, it seems to be worse here. Still, she doesn't need the justification. Alcohol or no, she doesn't really care about gender, and she'd frak Showboat again in a heartbeat if it would put the video loop in her mind on pause for another few minutes.

Taking the cigar, she puffs and exhales, staring at the other pilot through a blue-grey haze. "Right."

She supposes it is safer, though not quite in the same way.

Contradictory, she knows. Just like everything.
