It's summer.

OP is annoying and persistent and your generic Tumblr introvert (though the line "I honestly felt persecuted for my femininity" stands out) but then kikikikida (who I can't stand, personally, anyone else? If you are unsure, consult her comparison of dress code violation to murder and rape) comes along with one of the most entitled snowflake ( Read more... )

I only got partway through before I couldn't take it anymore. Jesus Christ, it's only a small portion of your life. Deal with it. It will be over soon and then you can wear whatever you want while dealing with real-life problems.

"modest women like you and me"
"every fricken teenage girl in the world gets away with wearing shorts so short their asscheeks hang out"
Good old slut shaming...

Is it just me, or are girls who actually do wear the asscheek shorts pretty few and far between? I don't really see it, as much as people complain about it, and I live in one of the warmest areas of my country. I sort of think people are just parroting when it comes to "other girls" and "slutty clothes."

Nope it is not just you. They are not such a common occurence where I live either and it gets like 40C here during the summer. But who knows, after all it has been 7 years or so since I graduated school, maybe things have changed in school dressing

The other holder of this account is about to graduate from high school and he says girls don't dress like that very often.

I had an issue with both things. And frankly, I don't know of any school that allows what kikiwhat'sherface described. Girls at my school were not allowed to wear anything shorter than mid-thigh, and what was REALLY pushing it for the rules. They were not allowed to wear sheer blouses, or super low-cut blouses. They could not wear shirts that hung down too much on the sides (showing a bra strap), but the boys were also not allowed to wear shirts like that, either. You could not show your midriff. All of these rules applied to both sexes, not just the one I pointed out.

The rules are about the same in my school but teachers no longer apply them: sheer blouses are okay if worn with a bandeau, they just gave up for shorts this year because they're way too short and everyone wears them, some girls have very loose shirts with large openings for the arms with only a bandeau underneath, not all teachers are consistent with the "covered shoulders" rule with tank tops, etc.

With my school, it was mostly enforced by the police officers walking around. Which is probably why it was more easily enforced. The teachers mostly only care about whether or not they were somewhere near the dress code.

Oh, now that's different, haha.

No, here some teachers are very strict and will ask every girl to stand up hands down and send them to the social worker if their shorts don't hit lower than their fingers. But most will only call on people wearing spaghetti strap tops or strapless things, if they call on people at all (I'd say about half of them don't give no shits about whatever you're wearing, except in sports).

I got as far as the list of all the reasons why the situation made her upset before I quit. I mean, really? You've written an essay already, anyone with an ounce of reading comprehension can infer why you are upset! And honestly, it is not a huge deal, graduate and move on. I wore all manner of strange things without any issue my senior year. In fact, the only things I've ever gotten in trouble for were *actually* things I shouldn't have--a tank top in 4th grade that I'd worn about a million times that year without issue, a spaghetti strap top with a cardigan in junior high (the cardigan fell off my shoulder when I had my arms full changing classes so I couldn't put it back up until I reached my locker at the end of the hall). I remember thinking it was vaguely ridiculous that my classmates wore strapless dresses that were way too short and I'd get in trouble for having a slightly too narrow strap. At the end of the day I just bitched to friends because I was not in a position of power. Those administrators did not care what I felt ( ... )

Were you ever able to get away with breaking the dress code? I remember getting away with it several times and so did other people, though we were selectively stopped and told to change.

I can't recall ever actually breaking the dress code only getting in trouble for it when I actually was in dress code. The one in 4th grade was actually my homeroom teacher who loved me sent me to the office, who sent me back to class, she sent me back to the office, the office sent me back and she sent me to the assistant principal, who measured my straps and said I was fine! I refused to go back to my teacher again though so I sat in the nurse's office waiting for someone to bring me a change of clothes. It was the weirdest thing!
