You've all probably seem the post on BtB about the new rules regarding secrets. I think we all agree that the new rules, while understandable, are pretty damn annoying. However, I am not here to talk about the rules. I am here to talk about the troll, and how to recognize it.

and to speak about this, that's just scary.
I also noticed something, you can see the same photoshop "skills" in some secrets, this is happening more and more often too.

Yeah, both of these trolls have some proficiency in photoshop. Most people who make secrets are as well, however, so I didn't list it in the post.

All of these secrets (your examples) actually were from the same person.
The past few weeks, going along with the way they like to post. Its just been this one person submitting the mass amounts of secrets.

So, from memory, these were submitted by troll-chan from part 1/2

Quite honestly, that just makes it worse. The idea that that many secrets are coming from one person is simply ridiculous.

... Those are all from imgbox, correct? It would explain the consecutive naming thing. Would it be possible to ban consecutive naming altogether? I realize that imgur re-names everything, so it would be slightly discriminatory, but really, this is getting ridiculous.

It looks like they're laying slightly lower this week. (But imagine my face when I put the submission post up and the first person to submit, within the first hour no less, is the troll.)

Its just a problem with trying to prevent all of this bullshit and making sure no one elses content gets accidently mixed in. We're trying to be REALLY careful in preventing this, but I'm sure you can imagine the difficulty. This week at least the post will be slightly different. I'd rather not say whats going to be done for fear of this person catching wind of it, but please rest assured that no secret that isnt breaking the rules will be ommited. But hopefully itll prove to be a happy solution to the issue at hand.

Keeping BtB alive whilst fending off this troll can only be one of the most complicated things in the world.

Ugh, that sounds awful D: I wish I had the time to work as an admin, but all of my Saturdays are full until mid-May.

I'd be dubious but ultimately fine with the new rules if we were still allowed personal drama on /cgl/. Lolita bitchbook is fine but any commenting system Tumblr allows is shit and it's hard to have a personal conversation without it being shut down. I think the new BtB "rules" are waaaaaaaay too subjective and I don't know why they can't just link suspected troll secrets at the bottom of a post instead of trashing them altogether.

I think the issue is the sheer amount of troll secrets. In all honesty, if the mods suspect someone is being a troll, I am of the opinion that they should just not post the secrets, but I understand that there are a lot of complications that could come from such a policy, not to mention the sheer amount of backlash from the community.

Perhaps only posting "The best of the Trolls" or something to that extent? Clearly, if someone is submitting more than 10 or so (mostly hateful) secrets at a time, they have 1) way too much time on their hands, or 2) have some kind of anger issue that should probably be addressed with a professional. Letting the mods post their favorite troll secrets could be a bit more of a compromise, though I guess that, too, could get a little hairy.

I definitely think all secrets should be posted, even if it's just linked at the bottom of the post. It's just too subjective.

Honestly I don't get the "too much time" argument that always gets posed. With MS paint it takes about 45 seconds to put a text box over an image, and about 20 to upload to imgur and link it in a comment in the submission post on BtB. Not to excuse the trolls, but that argument never holds water.

hmm. Maybe I should clarify: if someone is posting 10 legitimate hateful secrets (i.e. they're actually angry about something) in the short time-frame amidnightstroll has described (these secrets literally being the first thing on the submissions post), then they have too much time on their hands.

If this person is posting 10 hateful secrets for no better reason than to watch people rage over, maybe not all, but some of them, they clearly need a better hobby. Shall I suggest sewing?

Is there anyway they could just screen the comments and disable anonymous comments? Sure it would cause issues if the mods told people who posted what secret, but if they did that for a week or two, maybe the troll would just lose interest. And if they did try to submit any secrets similar to the ones already posted by the troll, couldn't they just be banned?(not sure how that works)

You can't ban by IP and you can't ban anons because they are anonymous. The only feasible thing to do would be to turn on IP tracking for submitting secrets, but that doesn't make you 100% anonymous anymore (I actually think logging IPs for submissions is a lot worse than logging them for comments) and I could see a lot of people being hesitant to submit any. As evidenced by the backlash about this comm not having anon commenting and forcing some people to use sock accounts, I really don't see forcing people to have some kind of account to post secrets go over well, unfortunately.

disabling anon comments is kinda defeating btb's purpose, dontcha think? Eve if it's for a week, it'll cause even more ((un)necessary) drama and people won't be able to voice their opinions or hate. because as far as I know btb is the outlet for people to be able to vent without others getting their bloomers in a ruffle... er, more than usual that is...
