I wouldn't have thought of myself as having a gift for improvised commentary... what it actually is, you see, is just being a massive showoff with an irresistable compulsion to show off whenever I have a spotlight or a microphone or a camera pointed at me ( ... )

I ended up just adblocking the little star tab thingy. It's like it never existed at all, unless I hover my mouse over the bottom of the middle of the window, without any other links or buttons behind it. When I do that, it can still notice that there is a Thingy there, but I can't see it and I don't tend to frequently leave my mouse hovering over the bottom of the window so that's good enough for me.
