In any cop/adventure/mystery/action show every couple that didn't live through the premiere is expendable for a 'good story'. Which sucks in a lot of ways. Haven't the writers and producers ever thought of doing something different???
1) The villain would make Ari look like little Mary Sunshine. 2) Gibbs would loose on purpose, to try to lead up the later. Only Only to find out he's dealing who knows the 51 rules. 3) McGee and Tony unreachable and somewhere without a knife. 4) Jimmy Palmer spend 3/4 of the episode locked in the refrigerated slab after falling asleep reading Ducky memoirs and being mistaken for a corpse. 5) Abby would adopt a black kitten with a white spot around its left eye. 6) Ziva would end up fighting for her life and pay a serious price for not trying to kill people for a change. (Her house or car would go boom.) 7)Gibbs would hook up with Borin. Then Fornell would ask what he was going with his ex-girlfriend. 8) A mystery con man would take Gibbs dad for every cent he has. Four episodes later it would be revealed to be-- bump-bump-bum-- Anthony DiNozzio, Snr.
