They successfully took out the ventilator tubing and dad is breathing on his own, HOORAY!!! He knew his name and that he was in the hospital and that it was April, which was excellent because he's been mostly drugged since it was still March. They brought in a portable Xray to make sure the feeding tube down his nose was where it belonged and so

He was on death's door a couple of times and we thought he was a goner. But you know what? They really can bounce back, not as far as we might like, but nearly to an acceptable level of normal.
I hope your father's condition continues to improve. Have hope and keep your fingers crossed.

Parents are so hard to raise. Moms are the worst. :P They are so used to taking care of everyone else they forget to take care of themselves.
Be sure to express your concerns about the oxygen to the nurses int he ICU and to his doctor(s). I'm assuming he's on oxygen at the moment, and there should be a readout on a blinking machine in the room. Ask your Mom and siblings -- and the nurses -- to jot down the numbers when he starts wandering. Anytime you can give the docs hard data, it helps.
