Lilith's Fair at SAC. Dear Gods, what a wonderful time and great people. It was the last real outing with my Godmother Marcia, who was slowly succumbing to ALS. She was in a motorized wheelchair and everyone made such a huge effort to include her, be friendly with her, etc.
P.S. I adore the Jones Beach, NY arena. Spent many an evening there and a few more out on the boat nearby listening.
Sounds like a wonderful experience! I am glad you were able to share it with your Godmother. I went to two Lilith Fair concerts, one in Philly with a bunch of friends and one in Jones Beach. When Sarah McLachlan sang Angel a capella we all teared up... I got all weepy when Tracy Chapman sang The Promise - just her and her guitar... dang I love that song! I agree, the Jones Beach arena was awesome... right on the beach and beautiful.
I remember seeing kd lang at Radio City in NY one year with a couple of friends and it was amazing... especially when she came out in that yellow southern belle dress and sang Miss Chatelaine. Her voice is amazing... I have seen Toshi Reagon a few times... a couple of times at a club in NY and once at Summerstage concert in Central Park, where I was able to get an autograph cd... my favorite song of hers is Darlin'... I need to catch up on her music. She was a great and funny performer. I think with lesbian concerts there seems to be more of a bond with the audience and the performers, which makes it very intimate and cool.
