If someone doesn't come back after an event, where have they gone? Will they be okay?

I... can't find my brother, Lelouch. Has anyone heard from him?

Well, he'd come back after a little while. When I died, it was just a day later that I came back.

I suppose, given the size of the mansion it's not. But it becomes rather clear when you don't hear from them. The dead come back here, so it's not really an alternative.
