Its a somewhat complicated matter, but it appears that a number of the residents are... behaving unlike themselves. It happens from time to time here.

And, no, you're not in E-space. It's simply called the City and functions as a sort of inter-temporal and inter-dimensional nexus.

Maybe?] I don't think people know why we're brought here but there's a possibility that it has to do with running a clock underneath the City using misery. I mean, apparently, I don't really know. I think that's probably just something somebody thought of.

It does sound that way. A clock that uses misery to run doesn't make very much sense at all.
