[The video feed shows a young boy with a mop of dark, unruly hair, and what could possibly pass as a pair of pyjamas and a tunic for his attire. He’s clutching a reed belt to his chest, and for a moment he just looks upset and defeated.

As he takes in his surroundings his expression changes, becoming bewildered and a touch more hysteric.]But... I ( Read more... )

Oh, hey, that's pretty rough. [This kid was clearly about to go to bed or something. Even if his pyjama top's a bit gaudy.]

I'm really only new here myself but I don't know if there really is a why. I think there are gods or something, though, and they're the ones who brought you here.

But where are we? Why would they bring me here?

It's some kind of... [He tries to remember the exact phrase Anthony said to him and manages] nexus of reality? It's a city called the City.

[Maybe he shouldn't be explaining it so soon but....learn through teaching? Maybe?] I don't think people know why we're brought here but there's a possibility that it has to do with running a clock underneath the City using misery. I mean, apparently, I don't really know. I think that's probably just something somebody thought of.

An inter-temporal and inter-dimensional nexus? That's what I've just been told, anyway.

It does sound that way. A clock that uses misery to run doesn't make very much sense at all.

Right, yes. It's one of those. Though I don't think there's probably a lot of them.

That's what I thought. Misery isn't exactly a form of energy.

I imagine there are several. But given the size of the universe, and the factors required to bring someone to one, I should think this sort of situation is quite rare.

No. It seems far more likely to be a folk tale people have come to believe based upon their experiences in this city, rather than any actual evidence.

Just our luck we ended up in it, right?

Still, it would be nice to know what we really are here for.

At the moment I'd say it's better than the alternative.

Although I do agree it would be nice to know why it is we're here. Judging by the guide I was sent, it doesn't seem like there's anyone who can answer that question.

Maybe we'll find out someday? But, uh...what's the alternative?

I hope so.

Well, I'd be dead if I hadn't been brought here.

What? Really? Well, then it's good you're here. Whoa. Are you okay?

I'm fine. Which is more than I can say for the Earth. I expect by now it will have been completely obliterated.

...it was still there when I left? When are you from?!

It was approximately 64997474 BC. I'm aware there should have been history after that, but I was unable to stop the Cybermen's plans.

That's uh...that's pretty far back. And if it was gone...shouldn't I have winked out of existence or something?

Possibly. That date far proceeds any form of human life on Earth.

Perhaps you still exist due to us being trapped in this nexus? I suppose it would make sense that some types of anomaly could support abnormal life forms.
