Gene had been on the go since first thing this morning. He had just got back to the station. He parked the Quattro and headed inside. Bacon butty wedged in his mouth, styrofoam cup of tea in his hand. He paused at the front desk to collect some files, getting greasy marks on them.

He jogged up the stairs, almost colliding with Molly at the top. He swiftly saved his bacon butty from falling on the floor and managed to somehow not spill tea everywhere. "Easy there, love. Can I 'elp you?"

After a night spent undercover as a prostitute, the last thing Molly wanted to here was another 'love' from a thoughtless, overbearing male. "You can start by dropping the 'love' crap."

If his hands hadn't been full of his breakfast and files, Gene's arms would've been folded across his chest at her comment. "Not gonna happen, love. Unless you drop your knickers first."

"That'll happen when hell freezes over." Molly, who was holding less then Gene, did cross her arms, looking as imposing as a five foot five woman in constable blues could look.

Gene can't help but feel for the girl in front of him. Bolly's little girl - well, not so little, confused, lost, and probably a little scared and he couldn't just tell her the truth. "Listen, love. I know things don't make any bloody sense right now, but they will. In time."

He reached for his cigarettes and lit one up. "Until then, you just stick with me and your mum."

For Molly confused, lost and scared comes across as pricklier then a hedgehog. "I don't need to stick with anyone. I can take care of m'self."

"I'm sure you can, but I am your DCI. This is my Kingdom and I make the rules. And I say you'll be sticking with me."

Gene took a long drag of his cigarette. "Besides, if anything happened to you your mother would castrate me and I rather enjoy 'aving my tackle intact."

"I don't need to know anything about your... tackle." Molly wrinkled her nose.

"Guv." She tacked on, somewhat sarcastically.
