Yuletide reveal time!

And now, for something less ridiculous than my previous post (NOT HARD), the Yuletide reveal!

I wrote Some Of Jacuzzi Splot's Acquaintances Are More Reluctant To Intrude On A Friendly Outing Than Others, a slightly manic Baccano! fic after which I think I'm not allowed to say that I can't write dialogue and plot any more. It was enormous fun to ( Read more... )

fanfic, anime: baccano!, writing, books: valdemar, yuletide

I also wrote Some Find Solace based on Dave Carter's song "The Mountain," which means it's basically original fic.

I liked that one very much.

(I also like Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer very much, but it is a good story.)

Thank you so much! That's a lovely compliment.

I just discovered much of Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer's oeuvre this year, after having spent a long while knowing a couple of songs and intending in a distractable way to get my hands on more. They really are great, aren't they?

I had the dubious fortune to discover them with Drum Hat Buddha, meaning that next thing I knew, Dave Carter had had a heart attack, but I'm glad any of their music exists at all. They are some of the best mythic folk I know; maybe the best. And their songs lend themselves well to stories. I know of three or four by now.

Does anyone ever try to publish Yuletide work? Obviously not the strict fanfiction, but I am thinking of Shakespeare, fairy tales, historical figures, songfic-nothing in the content for any of those genres would disqualify them from professional publication. And there is a lot of professional-quality work in that archive.

Oh dear! Yeah, I heard about Dave Carter's death back when I barely knew their music. All my real discoveries were posthumous. Which in a way makes me sad, and makes me feel that I missed my chance; on the other hand, as you say, at least it exists at all.

You know, I've wondered that occasionally, but I have absolutely no idea. I should think some of the authors of the more freely public domain Yuletide fics certainly could try for publication if they wanted, but I don't know if anyone has.
