It's 94 degrees outside right now, says Weather Underground, and the humidity, while not as bad as it could be, is enough to make it even more miserable. This is one of the few days when I will gladly hole up in an air-conditioned room and be only grateful for it. Ordinarily I hate air conditioning -- the smell of it, the way it makes transitions ( Read more... )

Damn! That isn't fair to you at all, that it is 95 up there and it's 90 here in Atlanta and the same humidity.

Is it really? Oh, man. That is lame, Boston.

Ordinarily I hate air conditioning -- the smell of it, the way it makes transitions to and from the outside world jarring and drastic, the way it's often overdone to make a room actively chilly when one's dressed for summer

I'm wearing a sweater right now, because of the perpetual freezingness in library I've whined about before. So I still kind of hate air conditioning right now, even though I usually don't, hi deep South summers.

I don't even know how hot it is outside, just that the very act of carrying my sweater around outside while not wearing it is uncomfortable.

When I worked at a bank in Vermont, I worked in a very climate-controlled room. (It was the room with all the servers, and a bunch more computer equipment. Temperature control was kind of key.)

This meant that even in the summer, I had to wear slacks and at least a light sweater or jacket. Layers were key, because upon leaving the building I had to remove said sweater (and attempt to carry it over my purse, not my arm) lest I expire of heat prostration. Pleh, I say.

It's a useful thing, yeah, but I still shake my fist at it. Plus it only makes the idea of going outside an even more daunting prospect, because you have your icy little cave to hole up in.

mmm, Indian food, indeed. *craves* It's been a while since we cooked a significant meal like that, because summer heat does not lend itself to culinary motivation. I have had so many meals of "hmmm, what do we have that involves a minimum of heat and prep work?" food.

Hee! I approve of those shirts.

mmmm, bread and tomatoes. I do that too. Yay for tomato plants! And cereal, yes, and bread and cheese or pita and hummus/tzatziki/similar things.

Awww, your poor cat! That's a good reason to avoid Indian food, yes. Poor little thing.

I will gladly, gladly take -10 degree winter days in trade for a lack of this.

So very very yes. *glares at DC weather and DC humidity*

Your icon makes me wistful. So of course I must match it!

God, DC. I do not know how you do it. Neat city in many ways, but I would be a puddle on the sidewalk. (This is half a lie; I can put up with heat pretty well, and I have a much higher tolerance for it than many of my friends, in terms of energy and physical misery levels. But I would not be happy doing so.)

Today was a particular bucket of woe, since a back-up of insane proportions on the Metro at the peak of rush hour meant that although I left the office at 5.05, I did not actually get into the door of my place until almost 8.00. Two hours underground in semi-air-conditioned hell. Small wonder that someone asked me if I was all right once we left the congestion behind us -- apparently, I looked like I was going to faint.

I stay indoors when it is humanly possible. That is how I have survived thus far. ^^;;

Eugh. You have my sympathies. That sounds utterly dreadful!

And, yeah, that's the real kicker. Summer to me is a time to be outside. Which means I always feel vaguely betrayed by the weather when it is sunny and gorgeous and yet far too hot to comfortably facilitate that.
