Yay for the Chad Mitchell Trio! They all ended up retiring here to Spokane, which is where Chad Mitchell is from.
Oh, man... those videos of Chad from 1960-1965..? I might not have been born for 20 years, but, lordy he was an astoundingly attractive guy, especially once you hear him sing. Woah!
I am old enough to remember Hootenanny, which was on Saturday nights. (I think that's what made me a folkie...) I remember these guys and I liked them. A lot. Maybe it's a gemini thing, hm?
I've never had a part-time job that allowed me to *save*.... but I've had ones that allowed me to pay rent and buy food... JUST BARELY. Couldn't afford a car, and couldn't afford to eat out... except a beer out once a week with friends. But... I also wasn't getting sick all the time, burnt out, and frustrated with my job, either. So.. it felt like a good balance before. Of course I was only making 7-9k a year depending on how many vacations I covered, so... living deep in poverty. But... WORTH IT!
I have to admit that I am doubly lucky that I work in a job I love with a really great team, so I don't mind showing up every day. Shorter days would be nicer maybe? Say 5 hours rather than 8. But I'd still like to show up every day. We have flexible hours and don't have to work exactly 9-5 so I tend to maximise my evening free time by starting closer to the 7:30-8 mark and being out of there by 3:30-4pm.
Think... if you had a 4 or 5 hour work day.... one other person could be on the team... being awesome, also working a 4-5 hour workday... and everyone would just be free to maximize their time and energy by having a work/life balance that makes them happy and healthy.
I used to work in healthcare... and 40-50 hour weeks.. pretty much kill your soul. There are so many jobs that are wonderful, but the full-time workweek is so taxing weekends are just for recovery from the week. It's a real shame.
A great job, a great boss, a great time.... doesn't feel like **work** which is a big help in this world, though. You are doubly lucky!! Congratulations!!
Husband jokes that I lollygagged being born. He went off (and was nearly 8 weeks early) and I was "right behind ya, just gotta finish this paragraph..." and then it was 13 years later. This may also speaks to our personality differences.
A lot of my friends are 10-20 years older than I am. I guess we just have more in common!
New job sounds awesome! I am *technically" not full time as I don't hit 40 lessons a week, but as a small business person there's "active" money making hours and all of those "passive" behind the scene things that gotta be done and take up time relating to the business.
You... well, maybe you have more things to do, wherever you are in the moment! I know that is how *I* feel!
My friends are all over the map, age-wise. Up to about 10 years younger,... up to about 30 years older. Steve was in his mid-70s... nearly 40 years older than me. He started out as a father-figure (since I was dating his son) but my friendship with him and his wife turned more equal later on. He introduced me to a lot of *his* friends... in their 50s, 60s, and 70s as well. Lots of 'young at heart' people with completely sparkling minds. I felt I was always in excellent company.
You might not be giving 40 hours of lessons, but there is PLENTY of background work keeping your business happening, as well as the horses, grounds, and tack in order!
Yes, indeed! Hurry up so I can stress about the next thing!
I might just. Therr is value in being in the moment, I think. I also conserve energy. If I can'r do anything about it why waste the mental energy stressing over what I can't control?
That's great. There's a lot of value in having friends from so many backgrounds and ages for sure!
Indeed, it's a job and a half this profession of mine!

Their harmonies were just... out of this world.

Sadly, showing up is a job qualifier these days. That's the issue with the current new hires where I work. We hired them because they showed up.
