Pushing the envelope

Long story short, it's time for me to end my 27-year war against food.  I actually feel like I'm slowly killing myself through malnutrition as I push my aging (yes, I'm older than I've ever been, and now I'm even older) body harder and further each day.  I have no intentions of decreasing my physical fitness or slowing down.  It's time to grow up ( Read more... )

Good on you honey....the best advice I can say is start to look at food as fuel and nothing else. Forget about any emotional ties to food (ie how a cheeseburger makes you feel happy or how chocolate cheers you up) and simply say "right I need energy, so simple carbohydrates such as brown rice, brown bread" or "I need vitamins, raw salad time" if you listen to your body it is always telling you what it needs we just always tune it out to say "oh shut up and have a pizza, that'll make you happy it always has".

Also visual stuff plays a big thing with eating healthy.
Choose fresh fruit and vegetables that look cool, are pretty colours and learn to appreciate the beauty of them visually. This will help your brain start to see them as the preferred choice because suddenly they won't be boring they will be awesome!

Yeah, my problem is more that I feel I hate all food with varying degrees of intensity. For me, it's a matter of "I have to eat something, and today all I can stomach is a banana/pizza/lamington (or whatever)." Otherwise, I could go whole days on nothing but a few cups of coffee.

The only emotion I associate with food is anxiety - tonnes and tonnes of anxiety.

Unfortunately, I can't come and cook for you. I might think of a few recipes and send them?

Looking at you comment in another thread about not being able to stomach the thought of lots of things, my advice would be to stock up on some things you can usually manage which have very little preparation requirements - like cereal and frozen pizza - so that when you are hungry but don't feel like eating anything in particular, you can fall back on those and get some calories without the stress of trying to figure out what you want and how to make it.

This is my favourite blogger on food and eating and health, she's called The Fat Nutritionist, and I think you might like this post:
