Oh, look, it's a non-political post!

Last year, I posted a list that definitely weren't New Year's resolutions and I kinda somehow forgot to post a similar list for this year. Some of the things on that list that I wanted to 2016 I actually did (like graduating, cooking more and getting more physically active), some are still elusive (like finding a job, moving out, getting better at ( Read more... )

Cooking <3 I did not know you were into it, btw.
I, for once, will definetely love if you were to post recipes. Or photos of whatever you cook.

J. Kenji López-Alt's "The Food Lab" is amazing. I don't own it myself (I was really good not buying new cookbooks since I moved to the states), but it spread like fire in my circle of friends of colleagues, with four people I know owning it, the fourth because I gave it to them as a present.

I'm not really into it, I'm more like trying to get into it ;) I love baking, and I'm not half bad at it but I always found cooking stressful, complicated and daunting. I like baking because it's basically "one step at a time, do exactly what's in the recipe and you'll be fine" and cooking always was "do 842020 steps at once, improvise half of them, leave the kitchen as a mental wreck" (possibly because Mom loves cooking but makes it look really, really exhausting). I'm currently trying to get past that and make myself get out of my comfort zone and hoping that at some point, it'll be as easy and as every day as cleaning up for me...

"The Food Lab"I just had a look at it and it sounds awesome! Part of why I like baking is because over time I managed to understand the basic processes behind it - why do I have to add egg to this, why can't I use yoghurt instead of cream for that, what do different kinds of flour do, that kind of thing - but I never really mastered that with cooking. Ah, OK :) It's quiet the opposite for me; I tend to find the whole chopping things up very meditative. But then, I tend to prefer recipes that do not need exact timing for the preparation of the different parts.

Hahaha, du und deine Kochbücher... *hugs*
