More LJ Fail

Seems that in addition to the Facebook-Twitter mess--which I'm sure no member of LJ's staff is going to respond to before Tuesday at least, as it is now the Friday before Labor Day weekend in America, and Labor Day weekend is legally a three-day weekend there, not to mention the people who turn it into a four- or five-day weekend-- the Evil LJ Read more... )

I've never heard of him before this, so no, I haven't brought any of this up to him. I didn't even know that LJ had a User Rep.

Did you post this on the lj post of the announcement itself? I've seen people get responses. As far as letting people remove their comments... I don't really have a problem with that because I don't know anyone who hasn't said things in haste that they've thought better of. When it's a matter of harassment, it's always best to screencap anyway, since some folks can edit remarks.

There was no announcement of this in the news. It was posted in lj_releases only. And the person who spelled out the potential errors in a two-part comment got no response at all. No one did.

And the post was made back on August 10th. I'm not holding my breath.

Hm. I just tend to delete anything from LJ because the fake folksy crap about "Frank" is ...

I'm only still here because I hate learning new systems. Moving to Dreamwidth may be a New Year's project.

Under this policy, LiveJournal has greatly improved user privacy. We can actually delete our account if, say, a stalker were after us. Users have control, and we don't have to ask for permission. This is good news! If only Facebook allowed this.

Of course, if you have a serious problem with someone's behavior, as the link commented, it's only smart to keep independent records of it. The posts that are evidence could be lost for many reasons beyond someone canceling their account.

I think that this is an improved privacy option, and I'm happy about it.

Yes, it is potentially helpful in some cases. But it's also potentially harmful in others. I'd like to know what workarounds LJ has for the potentially harmful situations, since knowing they existed would also make me like the option better.

But numerous people have already asked on the original post, and LJ is not answering. So I'm inclined to see it as a well-intentioned option that can help some people but that can also, without meaning to, hurt others. And that LJ doesn't want to deal with the problematic aspects. As usual.
