Seems that in addition to the Facebook-Twitter mess--which I'm sure no member of LJ's staff is going to respond to before Tuesday at least, as it is now the Friday before Labor Day weekend in America, and Labor Day weekend is legally a three-day weekend there, not to mention the people who turn it into a four- or five-day weekend--
the Evil LJ Overlords slipped another little change past LJ users on August 10. They didn't announce it publicly in News; they just mentioned it in a community called LJ_releases, which precisely 275 members belong to. So the info was not exactly given widespread distribution.
Changes:
* When a user deletes their account, they will now be given the option to delete all comments and/or community entries at the same time
* The name of the account will be added to the top of all [info]news notifications (the full text ones, not the tracking notification)
* Users will be unsubscribed from [info]news notifications if the email is bounced with a 550 error (after trying for one week), failure to connect to domain (after trying for one week), or both (after trying for 72 hours) and the email on the account marked as "Not Validated"
* Users will be unsubscribed from [info]news notifications if they do not log in for 6 months
Please note that top one and then think of the damage that could do:
* if one person--or one troll--decided to flounce off and delete every comment he or she had ever made in any community. Especially one involving lots of interaction, such as in a roleplaying group.
* if someone decided he or she wanted to erase any signs of illegal or harassing behavior when he or she deleted his or her journal. Now erasing the records is as easy as the click of one button!
Another LJ user went into a LOT more detail about the problems
here and
here.
Keep in mind that these are comments in response to an announcement by a staff member. Did the staff member reply to those concerns? Did any staff member?
Do pigs fly?
