Haha, thanks, I am happy I got the job, too! And you're very right, I think people do hire people like themselves.
My mom keeps muttering darkly to herself that Hillary is going to win because she's a cheater and she will stop at nothing and blah blah blah (she's got a personal vendetta against Hillary, and Obama is like her savior, which I think is sort of funny because the two candidates actually both have pretty similar policies). In any case, though, you make a good point that the campaign may have helped Obama. I certainly hope so, cause I like him a lot. :)
First of all, congratulations!! *hugs* I hope the job works out for you. Second of all, I know all too well the line of "it's not what you know, but who you know" when it comes to trying to find a job. You probably know that my own job search hasn't been the easiest, and I've been having to watch my friends get job after job. Half the time they told me the deciding factor for why they got it wasn't what degree they had or what their skills were, but that they knew someone already in the company who could give them a good recommendation.
Of course, I also discovered that doesn't always work, either. A few months ago I applied for a job at a counseling center, and the woman in charge knew my dad. I thought for sure that'd make me a shoo-in. Well, I didn't get it. :P
I know that I still kinda feel like I don't deserve the intership I have because I know the President of the company. I miss the idea of the American Bootstrap Theory. What is it now? The American Friend-of-a-Friend theory? It's disgusting.
However, it's (sadly) how the world works. Congratulations on your job! I'm in Naperthrill for this summer, too, so we should get people together and do fun things.

Anyway, I'm done rambling. Congrats again, sweetie! *hugs*
