∝Transmission 030: Flee! Run! Scarper!

Feb 05, 2011 03:26

[that ever-present droning sound in the entrance shaft and inner rim, that song stuck in a frozen second in time, finally lets out another note, and then another. at the same time, all around the outpost, the "ghosts" of the inhabitants and merchants begin to appear for even longer. eventually, things slowly begin to return to normal, the song ( Read more... )

[Lyle frowns at the screen for a long while, thinking. A wrong number's got to mean something bad, so he can't afford to rush this. As far as he can see, the clues are talking about Orion. The belt part makes that much obvious. And Ganymede was one of Jupiter's moons, wasn't it? But what the middle clue might mean, Lyle's got no idea. Can't afford to worry about that, though; the other two clues make him certain enough. Maybe if he spelt out Orion's name in numbers...?]

[He reaches out towards the pad and enters:] 67466#

»Security passcode entered is incorrect.
»Attempt one of three used before system lockout.
»Use the three clues to come to a singular common conclusion regarding them all. There is but one answer, and it is tied to a number important to this fleet itself.
»To activate hyperdrive, input the correct numerical security passcode, followed by # |

[after visiting the engine room and receiving the instructions, Oliver saves a copy of the clues on his sphere and wastes no time in high-tailing it to the data archive. it isn't long before he runs back to the engine room, inputting in the keypad:]

[he hopes he's right. Ganymede was easy--his own knowledge of mythology got him that one, but this is the first they've heard of Phaeton. though that bit about the elder of the pair...he wonders if there's something about Ganymede and Orion that they never found out]

[swears rather loudly. that is not what he was hoping for. actually, it's much worse than even what he was expecting. Oliver may have just punched a nearby wall a few times. but once he's had a chance to get some anger out and think, he tries putting things together again. considering the first two clues clearly point to the same thing and he has a feeling he knows what the third might be referencing...]

A few questions! When you say there's a 'single passcode', does that mean each ship has its own, or are they both the same? Also, is there any way we could get a hint about the number of digits, or about the numbers in the third clues, or something? (I'm 97.9% sure I've got the main clue figured out, but I'm having trouble connecting it to a number.)

Ohhh good questions! With the single passcode, it means that each clue will draw you to the same conclusion. Three clues, one common answer. (Which...sorta does answer the second part of that question!) As for a hint to the number of digits, there actually already is a hint in this mod post! There are four specific numbers mentioned, but only one will be correct, and it is a number important to the fleet.

Hope that helps!

Oh, one thing we DID forget to mention that is that those numbers in the third clues? Are relevant to two people--BUT! They're an easter egg of sorts for the old Crucible people since those numbers had been brought up before. We're sorry... The other two clues should still help you answer it, though (think of it like a best two out of three thing.)

So... I'm assuming there's no way to brute force the passcode for characters not good at riddles? Like, if Duo were to attempt to pull open a panel somewhere and rewire it? XD

Hahaha, unfortunately no. Poor Duo... The panels, unfortunately, won't open up no matter how hard he tries. Everything will break and the panels will remain as pristine and intact as before.
