I am so pissed off right now. And I am NOT impressed with Dell by any means at all, and am still considering sending them my so called computer back, or at least what I have of it.

Eh, guess reading the fine print IS importand.
BF bought a laptop from Dell a month ago and knew he wasn't getting a disk.

Really? Yeah, I see where I should have read the fine print, my bad (gets anxious and gets ready to go back over everything with a fine tooth comb).

But still, why? I mean, what purpose does that serve, other than completely incoveniencing the customer?

>>Really?
I don't know if he found out when he get the laptop last week or if he knew before... I just remember how we sat at the table and out of the blue he told me 'Dell isn't giving out OS disks anymore'. I was like.. wtf.. where did that come from? *lol*

Maybe I am a bit weird but I always read the terms of service before I pay anything ONLINE! [I'm very paranoid that way!]

>>I mean, what purpose does that serve, other than completely incoveniencing the customer?

I have no idea but if you ask me, this was Microsoft's idea!!

Well, I "glanced" over the stuff... because I figured it was the usual crap. Teach me to be more careful next time, that's for sure!

I really wouldn't doubt if it was Microsoft's idea, but that's still lame.

And now I'm even more pissed! I just logged onto Dell and they are charging me $35 for the disks and to have them shipped!

Forget it. They can keep it.

IF you decide to keep the computer, then write a letter to the CEO of Dell, detailing just why you feel that those discs should have come with the computer, and why you object to spending extra money for something that should be standard. If you decide to send it back, then write a letter to the CEO of Dell, explaining why, and also explaining that you never received the first monitor (I wouldn't want them trying to say that you owe them two monitors). So, either way, I'd write to the CEO of Dell ( ... )

I really do think I am going to write a letter, either way. Whether I keep the PC or not. Because this will definately prevent me from buying in the future, I assure you. There is no reason they can't/shouldn't send those CD's to the home user.

I agree, in a business setting, where multiple liscenses are purchased, then I understand that. But for the home user it's just wrong. And, as you said, it creates a MAJOR inconvenience, just like in your case.

I will have to sit down and cool off some before I can even begin to think about calling, let alone writing a letter.

*hugs*

We got the first dell before they started doing that. So when the second dell died we had the disks to reinstall everything. And I totally Agree with you on the whole 'it's just not right not giving us our disks' crap. Makes me feel better that I have a MAC

*Reason 6,540,838 to get a MAC
Customer service: Out of service Warranty repairs usually don't cost you a penny. i.e. my notebook screen died, they replaced the motherboard and all of my broken jacks (from improper notebook bag via college) for free stating 'the problem should have never happened'. Not to mention they overnighted the box for me to send it in, paid for me to overnight it back to texas for repairs and then overnighted it back to me. I was out my computer for a whole 4 days. And you do get your install disks with mac :D

Damn, I want a MAC now!

My one concern though, and maybe it's more of a myth now, but isn't software harder to find for it?

yes and no. Most popular programs are made for both. I have norton, microsoft office, all my design programs, and other 'fun' applications. Plus all of the macs are going over to an intel chip which means it will make it easier for more programs to be made.

oooh, nice. I shall have to investigate further. If I can find the dvd editing/capturing software I like, then I'd be all set, probably.

I think I may have to purchase a MAC for my next compy. Thanks for the info!

Dell, meet boot up your ass! *kicks*

That is beyond a royal pain in the ass. :P You know, I never got my discs either, but me being completely un-computer savvy, never knew that was a problem until my computer started acting up. If a person pays top dollar for a computer and all the stuff on it, they should get the discs that go along with it. :P

I hope this is all cleared up. If Dell persists on being an ass, point me in their direction and I'll beat the snot out of them for you.
