I am so pissed off right now. And I am NOT impressed with Dell by any means at all, and am still considering sending them my so called computer back, or at least what I have of it.
So, I get home yesterday and UPS had tried to deliver my computer. I knew this. I had seen the 2 tracking #'s on the website, no problem. I get home and find the note and call UPS because it said "signature required", which is fine too (and kinda nice to know they won't just dump a box on your doorstep with DELL logo sitting there).
The UPS guy was really nice and said I could pick them up at the office that night. Even better! I go to get them and when the guy brings them out, I knew something was wrong.
One big box and one tiny box for the speakers. Uh.... yeah. Problem. Well, it wasn't UPS's doing. I mean, that's all they showed, it's all they had. I commented to the guy and he said maybe the monitor was in the same box with the cpu. Well I knew better, but whatever.
I get home, and sure enough. No monitor. I check the packing list and the shipping labels and notice the CPU box says "1 of 3" and the speaker box says "3 of 3". So, obvious deduction here, "2 of 3" should have been my monitor.
I call Dell and their illustrious "award winning" support. First of all, I have to hit a ton of buttons, the usual crap, before I get some moron who just kept saying "But we show you signed for it." No shit! Yeah, I signed for 2 packages, for what I got, but where's the 3rd. Well, he couldn't help me and transfered me to somewhere there wasn't anyone available to speak with. I go online to do the dell chat support, wait 10 minutes in queue, and then go through the same run around with that moron, before the damn server times out and I get disconnected before anything is resolved.
Then, I look in my computer box and find that I don't have half my disks! No Windows XP disk, no system recovery disk! Oh but I do have an AOL trial disk! *snorts* and Corel Wordperfect and MySonic software. And the driver for the soundcard. WTF?
So, I call this morning and get a lady, and here's how it goes....
(usual pleasentries dispensed)
Support: Ma'am we see you received your computer and signed for it.
Me: Yes, as I told the idiot I talked to last night, I DID sign for what I got, but there was no monitor.
Support: I see. Well, let me look into it for you.... (I Hold) Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to track down that package, but I will send you out another one today. It should take 3-5 days to arrive. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Me: Okay, fine. But here's my other problem. I am missing software from my computer.
Support: Ma'am, all the software is pre-loaded on the computer for your convenience.
Me: Yes, I understand that. But I need the backup recovery disk with the drivers and the Windows XP disk with my serial key. I have bought computers from dell before and I know that they are supposed to come with these disks.
Support: Well Ma'am, a few months back, Dell decided to stop sending the disks out with their computers. Instead, they have made them available on their website to download for your convenience.
Me: (As my jaw hits the desk) What?!!! Are you kidding me?
Suppport: No Ma'am, if you need to reinstall any of your software, technical support can provide you with the link to download and reinstall the software.
Me: Excuse me, but do you know how stupid that is? If my computer is messed up, how am I going to download software?
Support: Ma'am, I work in customer support, and that is an issue for technical support, I am not sure how that procedure works.
Me: What's so technical about it? I'm sorry, but I fail to see how you have to be techically inclined to comprehend that if your computer is BROKEN, you are unable to download any software and therefore that is completely useless!
Support: (silence)
Me: Hello?
Support: Yes Ma'am, I am here, as I said, that is an issue with technical support...
Me: Fine! Then give me technical support, because if you can't provide me with the disks that I am entitled to with my computer, then you can have this damn thing back! And I will ship it back to you at YOUR expense.
Support: (the lady clears her throat) Well, let me see if I can speak with my supervisor and get approval to send you those disks.
Me: You do that.
So, the lady comes back and tells me they are sending me the disks and the monitor. But what a bunch of crap! I can't believe they are so damn stupid to ship computers without the recovery disk and then tell people they can "download" the software. WTF?! I mean, I can see doing that for something like acrobat reader, or games or something. But the fracking operating system? And drivers? That's the sort of thing that's critical to the PC to even be bootable, let alone have internet access. And to not send them is insane, imo. What, are they afraid of people pirating the OS? Well geuss what, it's not their concern!
Honestly, I PAID for that computer, and in that cost, I purchased a liscense of Windows XP. Therefore, that's really no different than buying it at the store down the road. My purchase should release Dell from that liability. If I want to install it on 10 PC's, then that's my damn business, and MY liability, not theirs.
So why in hell would they not send me the disk! Please, someone tell me there is a LOGICAL, RATIONAL answer to this. Because I fail to see it. Other than Dell wanting everyone to come to them and most likely charge someone to have a disk sent, in worst case scenario. And that's the other factor, say my PC did crash and they had to send me a disk. I'm a compy junkie! I'm not waiting 3-5 business days for them to send me the disk! I want it now, with the PC, in case that happens I can fix it ASAP.
Grrrrr..... If this is indicitive of how Dell does business, I'm SO not impressed and am still very inclined to tell them to kiss it and send the PC back. Especially since I haven't even received my flat panel monitor, which was one of the primary reasons for buying in the first place. Oh the irony. Maybe it's fate's way of saying something.
Edited: Oh no, I'm even MORE pissed off now! I just logged on to their website and now I'm being charged $35 for the freaking CD's! Oh HELL NO!
*gets ready to raise hell*
