I feel for the people in the Bahamas. We're getting some of the other bands now and that's about all. I hope the storm tracks further east and misses the northeast.

Hubby did find a very interesting site for tracking tropical weather. There's a lot of fun interactive toys to play with ( Read more... )

drinking coffee with morphine. I'm glad he's fine, but this made me laugh when I thought about all the different ways I've had to fix coffee for people. That's a new addition. ;)

One of Making Light's commenters lives on Long Island now but used to live on Texas's coast. While she didn't say it explicitly, I heard "the hurricane drills are supposed to be over for me now" in her comment.

His coffee recipe made me laugh, too.

Ha! A co-worker of Hubby's is in New York and they're blaming him for bringing the storm with him. They want him to leave.

Sounds like a day to relax. :)

Glad Mini-you is enjoying high school school. As much as I hated it at the time... I miss it now. LOL

Yes, it is!

If they had these magnet and career-based academy programs when I was in high school, I would have loved high school more than I did. I was active in school and that made a world of difference. My high school offers forensics. I would have loved that. At that time, I had wanted to be a police officer.

Yeah, my high school was simple boring college prep. Nothing fun about it. It;s good to see the schools changing and getting more interesting!

I probably would love loved forensics too, actually... not so much the chemestry.. but the mystery of it. :)

I also like that kids don't have to go to their home school. I like the idea of these programs out there to give students choices. What I like about these programs is students have to meet the criteria to be accepted, which in turn motivates kids to perform better if they want to be accepted into a magnet or academy program. Once they're in, they're placed in honors classes.

My older brother had surgery yesterday to remove a kidney that had a rather large cyst. He just text me and told me he's doing fine and drinking coffee with morphine.

I shouldn't be laughing.. but the last half of that sentence....

*sends him good thoughts*

WHO NEEDS A KIDNEY! :p

It's okay to laugh. That's exactly what he sent me. :D

We teased him for weeks about this surgery. I texted him the night before saying: "May the kidney be with you." He laughed.

The last time we were there, I said: "To lose a kidney or not to lose a kidney?" And that started a whole new game. He enjoyed every minute of it because it made him laugh and it eased his nerves for a time.

Some more:
"We need a bigger kidney."
"That's not a space station, that's a kidney!"
"We're off to see the surgeon, the wonderful surgeon of Broward!"

Well, you know how weird my family can be and you only met my sister. ;)

This is true... :D

To throw out the obviously-overdone Tin Man-version:

"My kidney is a lie!"

Drinking coffee with morphine?! Wow. We'll pray for a quick recovery.

I hope Mini-Me is all right now. Her school sounds like fun!
