*waves to fellow Garrowvians*

So I've sorta forgotten about this comm until now... *hangs head in shame* because to be honest I never thought they'd renew the series (period dramas are always costly etc.) but to my great delight they did! And with absolutely no detriment to the series! Wasn't it a brilliant, harrowing garrowing episode? I loved ( Read more... )

Hello fellow Garrovians,

I'm in Germany right now so can't get the livestream, but a friend has been able to upload sections of the first episode for me. I've watched about 20 minutes so far... and wondered what any of you thought about the rather different "look" of the show? It is clear they've made a few decisions - maybe following feedback from Series 1? For instance, Garrow wearing a hat outside - the extras being much less made-up than before - and generally, it looks more "grainy" and the look is more like that of a movie. Is that because they have a bigger budget? Or did they respond to criticism that Series 1 looked "too clean"?

These are just my initial thoughts - I haven't seen the whole episode. I love Garrow's Law (series 1) so much and am so used to it that it's hard to look objectively at a new contibution. Garrow himself is just as lovely though - he seems very smiley!

bigger budgets and the leisure of knowing you're wanted little_purple November 24 2010, 06:03:25 UTC
I do think the overall "look and feel" of the show -- more exteriors, a more natural look more light overall... and a more expansive pace -- is the result of two things: a bigger budget, perhaps but also the sweet relief of approval --! Knowing you're" wanted" can mean you can take a few risks, slow things down and spend a little money on hats, horses and chickens.

...especially if you're making other more "popular" concessions such as spending a lot of plot-time on the backstory around Lady Sarah and her suddenly for-no-good-reason loony husband. I'm a lot more interested in what happens in the courtroom than I am this codswallop about paternity. (Did anyone else see "He Knew He Was Right"??! Wearying stuff, all that unsubstantiated accusation, sigh.)

So happy the show is back!

hi there! I'm glad to see that this community is active... I've had a slow start with the second, I'd forgotten the show was on last Sunday *hangs head in shame*
But I managed to download and watch it and I must admit that I very much liked the episode. It felt like the show was touching on a heavier subject and I loved how they did it. Also, I'm adding Garrow's Law as my interest... I should have done that ages ago.

Just finished watching Episode 1. Wow - I'm stunned. Need to sleep on it. Very moving and thought-provoking.

I've had enough of Sir Arthur Hill though - particularly now that he seems to have gone completely deranged.

Southouse is wonderful as ever - and the actor playing Vassa was terrific.

Sorry - couldn't see an "edit" function - just wanted to add that that was Anton Lesser at the end - wasn't sure whether it was until I looked at the credits. I admire him a lot - and he looks quite different here from Merdle in "Little Dorrit". Really creepy.

Hi there everybody!

I've just re-watched episode 1, and I love it. So far the best episode IMO (and I LURVE the first season). It's more intense - both with the court case & the emotional stuff. Looking forward to the next episode. Hopefully I can watch it soon! (I'm not in England either).
