I'd have imagined that whoever says that would be branded as unsocial. Or at least, trying to be unsocial, and others would take that as a hint.

I wouldn't think that at all. I think it's normal to want your own space, whether you're unsocial or not.

A club that I'm a part of needs a place to meet. Since I'm not really using my room for anything else, mine has been volunteered.
