So Kit posted a link for me to a fangirl who writes about 'Why Women Like Slash'

I don't 100% agree with the author, but she has a good points.

here's the link: http://www.livejournal.com/users/the_dark_twin/2361.html

My response to this, in typical nonsensical fashion )

geekery, slash

I want to read your comps when you're done. Too bad Professor Clark didn't stick around for your year, he would have liked this topic (he's in to some pretty sexual stuff. That's why everyone was in love with him). Anyway, I'm a het woman who doesn't really read slash or yaoi, but I'm definitely intrigued by it from an academic standpoint. It totally fascinates me ( ... )

Could this also explain the recent feminization of men in Japan (boys who wear tight clothes, spend a lot of time on their hair, and wear makeup to be cool)

This reminds me of that whole metrosexual thing. I wonder if it's just a weird coincidence...

I'm not exactly qualified to speak on this subject (But when has that ever stopped me before?). So I figure I'll stop there...

Yeah, you're making sense. In fact that's kind of a neat idea. I wonder if the "newness" (technically "novelty," but I didn't want the connotations of that word...) of the acceptance of homosexual relationships possibly makes it easier to throw off the old stigmas and set-in-stone roles of "traditional" heterosexual relationships. Not only is there the premise of equality of the members of the relationship, but there's less accumulated "cruft" that gets dragged along for the sake of tradition.
In an engineering sense, when you're building something new from the ground up you have a lot more leeway to try new things and experiment, than if you were trying to fix something old that was broken. Now I'm the one probably not making sense, and it's not even late (only 2AM!)...

EDIT: Reposted to fix link.

I was going to respond to this in your journal, but my ideas got so lengthy and complex they end up in my journal

God, we're nerds. Especially me. Intellectual discussions on slash. Here, I'll throw in some stupid. "eeeee! i <3 slash! leggy is teh cutezors and he and aragorn are teh butt buddies of wuuuuuv!"

Eeew. I feel so dirty now. "Butt buddies of love." Now that's just a terrible phrase.
