Transplanting Zucchini Seedlings

Jun 17, 2015 01:58

Hey all, just a quick question I was hoping someone could help with. I have some zucchini seedlings that I started in seed trays that I've been a bit recalcitrant on transplanting. They are strong little seedlings, about4-5 inches tall, but some of them are...not straight. Their stems are solid and strong, but they are bent over. I was ( Read more... )

Zucchini plants tend to sprawl anyway, yours have just had a headstart. :-)

Plant them as usual and don't worry if they look a bit awkward. They'll be okay.

I agree with Beesandbrews. As long as they are healthy, plant'em and let them deal with straightening out or sprawling over as they see fit.

They are going into pots, so I was just worried about them breaking if they keep going over the edge. They are a heirloom round zucc, supposed to be 1.5 ft. apart, and I was putting 2 each in 3ft pots.

I'll give them some time to straighten up, and maybe try to slowly stake them or something. It's been super rainy and warm here (south Chicago), and I'm afraid if they stay laying over that they will get some kind of rot. :/

I've never grew this kind before, I usually do early prolific squash, and black beauty zucc, and trellis them up, but I though a bush type plant would be less hassle!

Why is it that whenever I try growing a plant because it's supposed to be "less of a hassle to grow", it always turns out to be MORE of one???
I'm down here in Indiana (directly south of you in Chicago) and I'm putting out as many of the clearance sale perennials I've bought as I can this afternoon--before we get any more rain.

I was planning on putting some more shade plants out into my boxes, but it started to get warm again, and you can literally see the water evaporating from all the rain. 230% humidity outside my window as far as I'm concerned! lol I swear I let my dogs out and they came in 30 seconds later and were frizzy.

The most I managed to get done was sowing some lettuce and herbs into the pots I prepped for them a few days ago. I put out some starburst mesclun lettuce mix, a little kale, more parsley, some cinnamon basil, and garlic chives. Lots of new things for me, and I've never grew herbs from seed either, but they were on clearance, and I had the space, so I figured I would give it a try!

Poor zuccs are still sitting in their seed trays. Hopefully I will get them out this weekend!
