Rain Gauges

I'm looking for a good, (hopefully) attractive rain gauge that won't break the bank. A lot of the ones I'm finding are too small for my tastes, too. Five inches minimum, preferably seven is what I'm looking for and sturdy.

I found this one which is neat but a bit pricier than I'd like and not as functional as I'd want either, more than likely ( Read more... )

I like both of these, which are from the same site:

If I was looking for one I'd probably go with the bird one as it's cute & we don't get a huge amount of rain. I'd have to get it shipp to my Mum though as they don't ship to Canada.

The bird one is cute, thanks for pointing it out, but not quite the rain gauge of my dreams. I'm picky, unfortunately.

That is a gorgeous rain gauge. If you're gadgety, you could make one similar to it using a large test tube, an outdoor watch hand or similar from a garden shop, and some flat pretty piece for carrying the numbers.... Garden centers, places that sell birdfeeders, hobby stores, etc., might have good-looking parts.

You could also just get a nice big tube and mark it off yourself and decorate it however you liked. http://www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Rain-Gauge.

...Assuming you're interested in that sort of tinkering, of course.

There are some options here: http://www.weatherinstruments.com/rain-gauges/analog-rain-gauges/2876+2880+4294292398.cfm.

If you have any local high-end nurseries, often they'll have a gift shop attached. Likewise a Wild Birds Unlimited or similar store.

Cool, thanks for the links/ideas. That weatherinstruments shop is fun.

I had thought of making one (I had been using a seashell, its not like high tech is needed here) but one more project however small is too many right now, I haven't even finished planting.
