Hey folks! I think I've only ever posted here once before, so mostly just a lurker (with the occasional reply) I didn't find hydroponics under the tags ( Read more... )

Don't Windowfarms have instructions for everything on their website?

I have Van Patten's book (I garden indoors, although not hydroponically). It's quite good and rather technical, which I like. Lots of pictures, lots of info. Haven't read the other ones.

as far as I've read on their website, it's mostly about the IDEA and the physical construction not various tips and tricks. They themselves say they welcome info and ideas on improving their project, implying that they haven't reached the level of perfection they would prefer. They also want you to describe every step as you do it, so that any questions, concerns, or thought processes can be gleamed from your every typed word.

I don't want to just follow instructions and comment idly on them-- I want to understand how it works and what others have done in the past. And specifically more how certain plants work better than others in said environments etc etc

I hope you'll have great results from your hydroponics. Unfortunately I can't offer any advice as I've never used this method but I'm commenting because I think there's a problem with the tags in this community. I haven't had a response to my several requests for a new tag (disabled gardener) and I wonder whether anybody knows what's happening.

I know you're looking for a book, but if you really want to know about hydroponics from people who use that technique extensively, check out forums relating to a particular plant that is currently used to treat glaucoma in CA. Those folks are /the/ driving force behind hydroponic technology and are more than happy to share their knowledge with anyone who will listen.
