Two Doctor Who posts in a week!

The BBC announced just a couple of hours ago that Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall are to leave in 2022I knew there was a reason for that bizarrely random video the other day! Apparently the next series will be on later this year and will only have 6 episodes. Next year, there will be three specials leading to ( Read more... )

I'd seen it on FB already.
I don't think she ever was very popular.

I've seen several people say that she was okay as the Doctor but that the writing let her down. I can't say that her episodes have really grabbed me like some of the other Doctors which is a shame. I think I've forgotten most of them and haven't really felt the urge to rewatch them :-/

They keep hiring younger and younger actors, they're eventually going to be hiring wee babies!

A tiny baby in a fez! That sounds too adorable actually.

As long as her last words aren't "I don't want to go" too!

Ack, the feels!

I have the songs Doomsday and Rose's Theme on my iPod. Whenever they come on, I replay them 2-3 times.

I used to listen to the Murray Gold soundtracks all the time because the music was just so good. I haven't listened to them for ages, I'll have to change that.

I couldn't get on with Capaldi either, he just really irritated me for some reason. There's only one episode of his that I really remember, Heaven Sent which is a Stephen Moffat one. It's a particularly twisty one that makes no sense initially but quite clever in the end.

According to the BBC article that I linked in my post, Jodie had agreed with Chris Chibnall to do three series and then leave. I don't think the viewing figures are anything to do with it. The viewing figures for her first series was 7.96 which is more than any of Capaldi's and second only to David Tennant's final series. Her second series got 5.40 which is pretty much the same as Capaldi's final series. That's also higher than the last five series of the original run (Six's final series and all of Seven's).

I really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston's portrayal and as he was the first of the new series, it wasn't hard to find his Doctor to be great. But then David Tennant came along and just blew me away. He was totally my Doctor. I felt sorry for Matt Smith because he had such a hard job to do following on from DT but looking at his Doctor now, after Capaldi, I don't think I gave him enough credit at the time. I liked Clara to start off with, but when she was revealed to be a super special companion, it annoyed me. As for Donna... oh, I did not like her AT ALL. But again, after some of the companions that followed, I think I would probably rate her a bit more now. She at least had a personality! Some of the later ones were just too bland ( ... )

I think Jodie's performance has always been good but the writing just hasn't been very good during her tenure, which is a shame. I'm glad Chibnall is leaving--hopefully they'll get someone better.

I had such hopes for Chibnall, I thought he would be someone better after Stephen Moffat. It really makes me miss when Russell T Davies was in charge!
