25 years

There was an article on Gizmodo recently saying that it is 25 years since Amazon was founded, on the 5th July, 1994. It's hard to believe it's so old! (It's also hard to believe that 1994 was 25 years ago!) The article goes on to ask what people's first orders were ( Read more... )

whoops there i go spending money again, getting to know you...

A calendar for my grandmother on 11 November 2004!

And I see that year I bought a book I have no memory of at all..did it ever arrive?

It sounds like Amazon's delivery service hasn't changed at all! I noticed a few years ago that a book had disappeared off my wishlist and it turned out that someone had bought it. I don't know who it was or when they bought it, but the book never arrived!

The first thing I bought was on my mum's account, and it was the Doctor Who movie with Paul McGann on VHS. I can't remember exactly when, but probably around the same time as yours.

Your order sounds much more significant than mine! The first purchase I can find from my gmail account was Christmas gifts in 2004. A children's book called Millions of Cats, a DVD of The Office Season 1 (not sure which version), and a This American Life CD, because this was before my parents had heard of podcasts, I guess. There must be older ones, though. That can't have been my first Amazon.

I bought a lot of Trans related books around that time :)

You can check on Amazon itself what your first order was. If you click on Orders on the home page, it will bring up a page with your most recent order. There's a drop down menu there, so you can go back all the way through the years to your first ever order.

I had no idea that amazon had been founded so long ago! It's also mind boggling that 1994 was 25 years ago even though we know it was. It's just one of those like nah. That wasn't that long ago... wait. And that's even from me who was just a kid then lol.

I think my first amazon order was a college textbook lmfao.

Even though the year 2000 was 19 years ago, it still doesn't seem possible that 1994 was over 20 years ago! It's like some weird kind of time jump.

Right?! It doesn't even feel that long ago but I was barely entering my teen years in 2000 so it's like, damn. It really was that long ago.

Plot twist: the first thing I ever ordered was a knitting blocking wires kit and the GOT boxset of the first four books. Text books were the next order lmfao.

A knitting blocking wires kit?! How weird! I think it sounds like you had your priorities right, to get the GOT boxset first and then the textbooks! :D

You've never bought anything off Amazon? Where do you get things from then?

nope never. I never even visited the site.

I do buy things in stores. Normal stores. (most of the time that is)
Now what should I buy from Amazon????

Generally stuff that's at least half the price as you'd pay in a store.
