There was an article on Gizmodo recently saying that it is 25 years since Amazon was founded, on the 5th July, 1994. It's hard to believe it's so old! (It's also hard to believe that 1994 was 25 years ago!) The article goes on to ask what people's first orders were ( Read more... )

whoops there i go spending money again, getting to know you...

Amazon tells me I've been a customer since 1999 - I have no idea what my first purchase was, though.
Last one was a free Kindle book yesterday ... *lol*

You can check on Amazon itself what your first order was. If you click on Orders on the home page, it will bring up a page with your most recent order. There's a drop down menu there, so you can go back all the way through the years to your first ever order.

Does it still count as a purchase if it was free? ;)

Unsurprisingly it was books! ;-) Anne Perry, Anne Rice, Barbara Hambly, Poppy Z. Brite ...

What a surprise! The only name I don't recognise there is Barbara Hambly.

I didn't realise it had been that long, wow! I was buying books online from an independent place in preference to Amazon when i first got online in 1996, forget their name as amazon took over but they had a loyalty scheme where you got points so that was handy. My first amazon order in October 1999 was Dick Francis' Second Wind and a Patricia Cornwell and my second a book about artist Tamara de Lempicka.. after that there was no stopping me, shudder to think how much of my business Amazon have had over the years but with being stuck in so much they really are incredibly useful :)

Today they delivered a model of a running cheetah, is very lifelike

I have a feeling I bought books online from somewhere else before Amazon but I can't remember where it might have been. I know I bought CDs and DVDs from HMV's website rather than Amazon's for a long time. I can imagine that people like yourself who can't get out so easily, Amazon must be a lifesaver. Especially with them selling more than just entertainment now.

Interesting model. Are you on an animal kick now? Oh, they have dinosaurs too, and a random wizard.

Not sure where i got my dvds from, not online, I think in HMV's physical shop - I know, i used to go to real places, wow *g* Oh i'd be lost without Amazon for sure, though I'm very glad for the easy returns on Prime given how often things have to go back, cna't alwys judge from a photo (not ot mention allergic to plush toy fur sometimes :( )

I've been on animals for ages, stopped getting much for lack of space but now I have the new bookshelves I can indulge once more.. Papo do fab dinosaurs, some of the best, their horses are a bit hit and miss though.

I mainly got DVDs from HMV's shop because of all the three for £10 offers they did. I bought a few from Play.com because initially they were sometimes cheaper than Amazon. I tend to buy things online if I am not bothered about returning it. Earlier on I was looking at ergonomic keyboards and the cheapest one was some random make at £25, but I found out that Curry's has a Logitech one for £27. At least if it's not suitable, it's easier to return.

Perhaps there's a huge difference between designing dinosaurs and horses!

Amazon is good for presents, I think most of my purchases have been Christmas or birthday presents! :)
