Back when the Harry Potter fandom was at its height, I was very much involved in the sorting__hat community. It was set up with the four Hogwarts Houses, a strict sorting procedure, prefects and faculty, and the year was divided into terms with various challenges and events for earning housepoints. There was a lot of friendly - and not so friendly - ( Read more... )

I'm Slytherin (Slytherin Pride! ❤) but this post reminded me of this amazing and appropriate video. :)

Same here. When I was sorted in the sorting__hat community, they said they'd never seen anyone as obviously Slytherin as I was. I was very pleased :)

Plot twist: Hufflepuffs can be really competitive people. Even I, a non-competitive Hufflepuff, can be really competitive depending on what it's about LOL. JK Rowling def always seemed to be like oh yeah and the Hufflepuffs are over there somewhere lmao. Believe it or not, the people I've met in life who are def Gryffindors don't usually have a competitive streak whether it's all the time or depends on the thing.

The Hufflepuffs always seemed like a bit of an afterthought in the books, like she didn't really know what to do with them as they didn't have an overwhelmingly dynamic characteristic. The Gryffindors I've known aren't really competitive unless they're having to defend their or someone else's honour. Otherwise, they just don't seem interested.

I am one of those odd people who have never read or seen the Harry Potter franchise. Anything hyped puts me off, which is probably my loss.

I know what you mean, I get that with films sometimes. Anything that's OMG AMAZING YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS, and I'm completely put off. I think I was lucky in that I discovered the Harry Potter books quite early on before it all sort of exploded everywhere!

Exactly. The silly thing is that I would probably enjoy them. However, there's already so many books, so little time...

Yeah, I think if you're looking at seven quite thick books that you're not overly enamoured with, it's hard to find the motivation. I'd suggest the audiobooks which are read by Stephen Fry because he does such an amazing job, but they'll probably take even longer to get through!
