It's a concoction

Every so often I get stuck trying to decide what I'm going to make for tea. Tonight was one of those nights. It was going to be chicken something, probably with rice but that was as far as I'd got. While I was looking through the cupboards for inspiration, I came across some spice mixes, including a Chinese 5 spice mix, a fajita mix and Cajun ( Read more... )

that doesn't sound bad, but spicy though :o)

you say: "what I'm going to make for tea"

do you call your evening meal 'tea'? It sounds more like a 4'clock snack with some cake and cookies

That's one of the bonuses of making stuff from scratch, you can make it as spicy or not as you like.

All northern England calls the evening meal tea. Even parts of the Midlands, Wales and Scotland do the same.

I like Philly anyway but it took me a while before I started using it for creamy sauce making. I didn't realise it would go so well with those Dolmio sauces though, that's definitely something I'll be doing again!

Ready Steady Cook is calling! Either that, or Masterchef... Would you fancy the idea of taking part in something like that?

I'm not sure Masterchef allows you to use pots of Dolmio pasta sauce and Philly!

Deciding what to make for tea is the bane of my existence. I think I'd enjoy it more if I didn't need to have dinner on the table by a certain time? So you should come live with me.

Why do you have to have it done by a certain time? I start making tea about 5 o'clock-ish and it's ready when it's ready! I could and live with you, if you don't mind feeding an extra mouth :P

We need to have dinner over and done with by a certain time so the kids get to bed on time. We do dinner, baths, reading then sleep (8pm for Emily, 8:30 for Josiah). I usually have to pick Josh up from work about 6pm then go home and try to have something on the table by 7.

Weekends are a different story, so if I'm going to experiment I leave that to Friday or Saturday night.

It gets easier in summer when Josh walks to and from work, but then I get the fun of trying to figure out what to cook that won't make the kitchen feel like 40C! I could easily live on salad but there'd be a mutiny if I dished up leafy greens every single night, I think, haha.

I suppose I'm lucky in that respect although we tend to eat around the same time, there's no time limit on it as such.

It's difficult when it's hot! I try not to put the oven on then because it's just too much with the heat. I tend to make stuff that either uses the hob or the grill, so things like chicken and rice. As for salad, you could always make a rice salad or a cous cous salad. It doesn't just have to be a green salad!
