Yup! The year starts at the beginning of September - and I'm not sure how the number of holidays/days off compare to other schools/countries...

Wow that's really awesome! We start the last week of August but get out mid-May.

Where I went to school (which is the complete opposite end of the country from gamma_x_orionis, though also on an island LOL), it was pretty much the same for the 'main year' of the academic year.

Fall semester was September-November with exam session in December. Spring semester was January-March with exam session in April. Summer semester ran May-August, but there was no formal exam session because the classes were condensed.
