While looking at houses on Saturday, we drove past University and Dale where Saigon Restaurant & Bakery, home of these sandwiches, is located. I just about pooped my pants when I saw that the door was boarded up and the parking lot was empty. Well all I can say is THANK GOD they only moved down the street and didn't close. I am now scheming how ( Read more... )

Hah, actually the best sandwich I've ever had was a bahn mi. Those things are just delicious. Otherwise, I'd say fried oyster po' boy at the Oceanaire. (Oh, hay, there's one in Minneapolis!) Sadly, their menu rotates a ton so there's no guarantee of more sandwichy goodness.

I can't do oysters unfortunately. I like most seafood, but being able to feel the individual organs of something on my tongue as I swallow it really squicks me out. )c:

I just try hard not to think about it. After my brief stay in Japan, I managed to get over a lot of my seafood squeamishness. Deep fried shrimp heads...>_<

That doesn't sound too bad - I used to occasionally bite the heads off prawns at tapas bars in Spain just for the sake of grossing people out. ;p Plus you're basically eating the head of a shrimp anyway if you eat the whole thing.

Oysters are pretty much the only kind of seafood I don't do, actually. Fish, calamari, shrimp, scallops - all good. And I love eel above almost any other kind of food, and another one of my favorite tapas treats is octopus ceviche.

I'm thinking you may know about the Big 10's sandwiches from stadium village, and of course Manny's Tortas....those are the two I crave. I also really love the chicago dip/french dip from Gabe's "roadhouse", or used to be just sports bar on Lexington and Front/Energy Park in st. paul. It is salty, cheesy, the bread is toasted and the au jus is awesome usually. It also comes with some spicy peppers in oil to add to the sandwich to taste.

I love Manny's! I've actually never had a sandwich from Big 10's but I will have to try that now, before I move out of that general neighborhood.

My second favorite Twin Cities sandwich actually comes from Golden's Deli in downtown St. Paul, though. If you're ever in the area of the farmer's market you should try one.
