Comic books never made people communists and video games aren't making kids into little terrorists. Parents are not only failing to regulate what their kids watch or play but most seem to be lax in teaching basic manners and politeness ( ... )

"It's good that the state is making it more difficult for minors to obtain these violent video games... When the parent responsibility to protect their child from these games fails, it's left up to the state. We hope Minnesota's new video game law set to that effect in three weeks isn't overturned by a judge. We hope the state wins this game."

obviously the person who penned those words isn't a parent.

there's only one question here. who is SUPPOSED to to do the child raising, the government or the parents.

Would you trust the government to mind your kids? I wouldn't even leave food in the fridge. Bastards would probably drink all my liquor too...

They'd take all my stuff and sell it for a few pennies. I'd even expect to hear about my kids being up on the auction block. There's nothing the government won't do for a dollar.

However, the Austin Daily Herald takes a different view: "It's good that the state is making it more difficult for minors to obtain these violent video games... When the parent responsibility to protect their child from these games fails, it's left up to the state. We hope Minnesota's new video game law set to that effect in three weeks isn't overturned by a judge. We hope the state wins this game."

It's probably the cow patties that bull's leave behind.

That or the fact that I'm going to repeat things that have been said here in GP time and time again.

It's the parents job to parent their kids not the goverment.

The reason why they think it fails is because the parents THEMSELFS fail at doing their jobs. The Goverment doesn't need to step in and do it for them.

What? PARENTS PARENTING their children? Utter nonsense. PARENTS should have no part in PARENTING their kids. What do you think nannies and babysitters are for? So the PARENTS don't have to do any PARENTING. Duh! Any PARENT can tell you that it's a lot easier than doing any of this "PARENTING" stuff.

evidently the government forgot about it's very own branch called "Child Services"

I hope the government is prepared for the truckloads of children that parents will be more than happy to dump on them.

Parents, not video games, raise children. Video games, like movies, music, and novels, represent an escape from reality. Parents have the opportunity and responsibility to teach children fundamentals about fact and fairy tale, right and wrong, good and evil. Without these fundamentals, children will fail the test of life even if video games were banned altogether...

That says it all right there, really. Just as an example here, when I was a little kid and I started watching stuff like Power Rangers, my mom sat me down and made sure I knew the difference between superheroes on TV using karate on monsters and crap and me trying to beat up people in real life. All that has to be done here is that parents have to be parents, not people that stand around and watch their children grow up without bothering to influence them in any way.
