Comic books never made people communists and video games aren't making kids into little terrorists. Parents are not only failing to regulate what their kids watch or play but most seem to be lax in teaching basic manners and politeness.
The sad part isn't that the government wants to censor and regulate the medium, they have done this to all kinds of media for years now, but the fact is a lot of parents don't care. Their response is that they simply don't have the time or want to put in the effort to regulate what their children are exposed to and they want someone else to do it for them, they are far too busy going to work and doing laundry to raise their own kids so they just don't care.
If there was some kind of epidemic of violence in america directed related to playing videogames I could see the need for censorship but the fact is there are a handful of violent acts that get pawned off on videogame defenses because no one takes responsibilty for their own actions anymore, especially if they can murder someone and blame a videogame to get less jailtime. Rich white folks with a 98% incumbency rate shouldn't be telling the rest of the country how to raise their kids. Look at George Bush, his daughters are drunk little sorority sluts destined to star in a special edition DVD for Girls Gone Wild, and Hilary's husband got a BJ from another woman. She's just mad at life and figures punishing some kids will make her feel better.
I'm 21, none of this crap effects me directly but any kind of censorship just spearheads the way for additions and corrections that could lead to outright bans on products the government deems unsuitable for its population. America, the land of freedom, as determined and limited by a small biased section of citizens with financal and stock investments piloting their political desicions.
Anyway aren't we at war with terrorism and half the world right now, shouldn't these people be working on more important things like fixing health care, social services, poverty and fixing the national debt? Oh wait, I forgot, you can't make a political career by fixing problems only by prolonging them.
