If you read the original article, it says that "violent video games and videos" are on the list. Video games do not appear to be singled out.

And yet again.... bigman_k December 12 2005, 13:15:59 UTC
Violent video games are put in the same catagory as booze, cigerettes and other truely proven harmful materials. Sigh yet again!

I am saddened to hear people in my home state are doing this. Booze, drugs, and guns I can understand, but violent video games? Aside from what's considered 'violent' (as mentioned above) and that there is no real proof games are detrimental (also mentioned above) I have to wonder how old these kids are. If they're below ten or in their early teens, then no parent in their right mind should have drugs readily availabe anyway.

Define kids.
Also, define 'violent video games'.

Kids : People who you are still dependent on you for food, shelter, and guidance. "You live under my roof, you follow my rules"

Violent Video Games : Cop killers, such as Katamari Damacy and Mappyland.

Agree, and Disagree tollwutig December 12 2005, 14:57:21 UTC
While I disagree with the vague definition of violent, I do agree with the over all concept. Remember guys this is a PARENT's group doing this. It shows parents are actually showing OMG concern over what thier kids are doing.

This is actually the kind of thing we want Parents acting on thier own without the government having to step in to do thier job.

Now as to what violent... I am thinking that parents who have the amount of concern to sign up or look up this list, would also be proactive enough to actually call the other parents and ask what they consider violent. Maybe even get a list of games available.

Now I know lumping violent games in with Tobacco, alcohol and drugs is kinda over doing it but they aren't singling out video games but movies as well. I don't think the idea here is to say games are bad, but is more like I want to know what my kids are going to be exposed to while they do sleep overs, and this way I know they won't be exposed to stuff I don't want them to be.
