I'm pretty much with tollwutig, though I have little problem with the idea that they're lumping these things together. If I said I was against genocide and also against running red lights, it doesn't follow that I believe the two are equally bad. I bet these parents will also try to prevent party guests from murdering each other, but that doesn't mean they believe that smoking is just as bad as homicide

Have to say, I agree with you. And I know I'm guilty of being trigger-happy when it comes to this issue. It's a little to personal a subject though - it's often hard not to get carried away.

I agree with Dennis on the definition of violence in games but, putting the lumping these things all together as "bad" aside, I do support this group.
As I understand it, and looking at this quote: "directory of parents who have pledged not to make unsafe things available to kids at parties held in their homes." These parents are affirmatively making a pledge, and volunteering to act in a certain way. I love this because it isn't the Government stepping in and removing our Freedoms. I am in no way compelled to sign up for this, nor would I ever. But these people have the freedom to do this, and if that is what they want, I encourage them to do so.

While I'm glad that parents are actually doing something other than bitching to politicians, and I know the focus is on preventing underage drinking, I'm really tired of violent games [and movies] being lumped in with such things. I understand the concern, but people need to learn that violent games aren't on par with alcohol and drugs. Violent movies aren't either, but no one really seems to think they are, and in a way it makes it better to include them with violent games, as they're not singling out the most popular medium.
