Dr. Who: Rose

Jul 03, 2011 22:34

It's been a long time since I watched Dr. Who. Probably around fifteen years, maybe twenty. I never watched it religiously. It was just an every now and then thing that I'd catch when I was trying to tune in to watch Blake's 7. I gathered the basic background - time lord, reincarnations, travels in time and space, fights aliens, etc. But I never ( Read more... )

I've heard good things about that show too. I might watch it as well but I've still got to watch Lost and Buffy. I've watched one episode of each and they seem alright but they didn't hook me in the first episode like Heroes and 24 did. :)

I watched the first season of Lost. I didn't like it. When they wrapped up the last season and supposedly explained everything that had been going on all the time, I read a summary/review of the wrap-up. It didn't make much sense. I decided I had missed nothing.

But Buffy is very good. I recc Buffy. It gets better as it goes on.

I highly recc both Doctor Who and Buffy but they are different. Both have strong female characters, but Buffy has a much bigger cast. DrWho is sci-fi with some history thrown in. Buffy is supernatural fantasy. Buffy has amazing dialogue! Both shows are very smart. Buffy has sex. DrWho has a boy on boy kiss at the end of the 1st season. Buffy has lesbian kissing, and all kinds of sex, including with vampires. DrWho is more of a family show. Buffy has three times as many episodes. DrWho is still going on. See my blurb below...

Yaaayyy!! Don't worry, the show builds. And the realistic lifestyle is seen more on British TV in general I think. But most of the doctor's companions come from the working class, mostly, from what I've seen. And yes, that's Claude. He's the 9th Doctor ( ... )

Urg. Then what did I watch 15-20 years ago with Tom Baker in it and the guy with the long scarf? I loved the scarf.

That's definitely good sir Chris Eccleston! And I love Rose. David Tennant (TEN) is "my" Doctor, but I loved Nine (Eccleston) too. I hope you can get into it, bb. It's so amazing.

It gets better. I don't wanna spoil, but like...don't give up on it. I know it gets a little bit slow, but I swear it gets even better and I didn't wanna look away!

I think interest also has to do with the Doctor because I wasn't impressed with nine at first, but I had already fallen in love with Ten. Re-watching Nine, makes me go, oh he's the badass doctor.

Not many people like Nine at first, but as you keep watching, it gets so much better! :)

Definitely keep watching. It gets very plotty. The first episode had me going, "Huh, kinda not what I expected, but I kinda think I wanna watch more..." And then I so watched everything that was available, because once I got invested in it (which didn't take long), I was hooked.

BBC shows are definitely different. Everyone is more realistic. The actors in the bit roles are astounding and you get attached to them very quickly--unlike (at least for me) stuff like the cop-dramas where the client is brought in and you say to yourself, "Well those tears are fake."

You are right. The Doctor = Claude. :)

Yep, I'll watch more. Might cut into valuable fic-writing time though. :(
