This entry was created in August 2005, and was accurate as of July 2005. It was last edited July 2007. I can't vouch for any changes there may have been in the Kumamoto Driving Test, but feel free to leave a comment if something is different or has changed.Sorry for the hiatus. The following is my account of my experience at the Unten Menkyo Center ( Read more... )

I'm getting on a plane to come to Kumamoto Tuesday and passing a driving tests is actually something I've been worrying about. So this post was very helpful.

I'm going to be a JET in Shisui-shi, BTW.

Yay, glad it was useful ^_^ Where in Kumamoto is Shisui-shi? (Like in relation to Kumamoto City or Amakusa - I don't know many other places ^_^)

In the Kikuchi District, about 10 miles from Kumamoto as best I can tell.

This was super helpful. I'm *dying* over here because the driving center in Tottori couldn't take me for an initial appointment to turn in paperwork until July 7th. I'll only have a week or two to pass the stupid test before me international license becomes invalid. Wah!

How many times did you have to take the test?

Twice. First time, I thought I could pass the manual test (wrong). Second time, I tried it in automatic and passed.

(Oh, I keep two LJ screennames, by the way ^^;;)

I just wanted to add a quick note. I took the test in Kanagawa and passed on the first time, but that was because I was REAL lucky and rode in the back behind the person in front of me, who was spot on every turn. I can't help emphasizing this point - you said, "*Exaggerate being cautious. Even if it feels stupid."... Take this to heart - stop at EVERY stop sign way ahead - look both ways and check your mirrors, rear and sides. Everytime you come to an intersection, make sure to exaggerate looking both ways... when making a turn, make it a point of looking over shoulders. It takes a while to get through the test, but it's a HELL of a lot better than dragging your butt down to the testing center and waiting through that hell again... I'm told that Kanagawa has one of the strictest testing centers, so I hope Kumamoto is a lot nicer. But I just wanted to pass on that advice.
