LOL. Sorry Gael I would love to help but I actually have exactly the same problem. I have skype installed on my PC, my laptop and my netbook and have no idea how to use it. I shall read the comments to this one with much interest.
First, never, ever believe anyone that says "Oh, that's easy!" because it won't be! The same goes for anyone you ask for directions end the conversation with "You can't miss it!" I just hang my head and cry, because I know then that I will!
Skype ... your two best bets
#1: The 14 year old :-)
#2: Google (I even did the search for you; in advance appreciation for a really intensely hot NC-17 finale B/J sex scene on QI!) hee!
Just read and follow the instructions. Download via the blue button for the free version. Although the premium version is on sale right now for 1/2 price at $4.99. Click around, get acquainted with it. Skype is your friend. Remember, you are the boss, don't be afraid; it's more afraid of you than you are of it ... no, wait, that's snakes or something ... never mind. :-D
Ok Go to Google and download the application for skype after it loads and it is step by step instructions you then chosse your name or username and a icon or a take a picture of yourself and that is it. What you then need like Twitter to search for the people you want to talk to and ensure they are the right person. Once you are ready to call make sure you are on the page and send them a please accept me request just like FB and if they accept you then call using the video call button. I have managed it and I am techno stoopid lol
Skype is easy if you are tech save, if you are at the stage where you know the mouse, photoshop and printing, saving sharing and e-mail it can be a huge challenge. I agree with trintiff use the tutorial link, check out YouTube for stuff like Skype tutorial or how to use Skype. Good luck.
I have nothing to offer re: how to use Skype. I am as geeky as the next grrl, but i deal with these things 'need to know' and frankly, I have never felt the need for anyone to *see* me when I am on the phone, lol! My understanding, though, is it is just like logging into am old mIRC chat room, just with more 'shiny'.
But, I sit on a board that has a treasurer who lives at least 1000km away from our location (any means necessary to keep a good treasurer!). She Skypes in for our regular board meetings, but sometimes it refuses to work. So have a backup contingency - simple and super-effective is to call in to a cell with a good speakerphone feature and have them set it in the middle of the table (imho it works better than Skype for audio). I am told certain of the older Blackberry phones excel used in this fashion.
