Oh, that really sucks! I can kinda understand them giving the new laptops to the professors with tenure, but why couldn't you at least take the older ones? I mean, I can't believe you'd get brushed off like that after working there so long!

No, this old machine is pretty old (1995) and there isn't enough space on it to handle an update. It's still running OS 7.5.
And the laptop can't load a version of AOL new enough to run, so I can't connect on it.
The G3 I have here at home is fine -- it's whenever I have to leave home that it becomes a huge issue. But thank God I have this machine here or I'd be out of business completely. And I have a good, good friend to thank for the fact that I have this computer at all, so I can't complain. Much!
It also depends how laid back the person in chrage is and how well one knows him/her. My supervisor at the university happens to be fairly agreeable, and she actually bought our in-house graphic designer (who, like me, is a student worker) a brand new mac desktop for her to use at home.
Wow!!! That is pretty pathetic. My sister is a "secretary" at a two year college (she's been there for 5 years) and she has access to laptops all the time. I think it sucks that you can't get one. I bet it's all about who you know.
