Regarding the Spuffy poll...

Jan 28, 2009 23:05

I closed up the poll for favorite Spuffy moment. Just some thoughts:

1. There's a pretty even spread for the pre-S7 scenes. Of course, it's difficult to choose a favorite scene when there are so many wonderful ones, so I somewhat expected that. The one that did get the most votes (The porch scene in Fool for Love) seemed to be the one that started ( Read more... )

it's a list, btvs, spuffy

number 5 made me think on why I didn't vote for Buffy's confession in chosen. The only thing I can come up with is Buffy's "I love you" is irrelevant to me, to little to late? or maybe it's an uh we already knew that? actions speak louder than words?. I can't quite put it into words why that is yet though I'm thinking thinky thoughts. I think when I see that scene, I'm aww that's awful nice of you Buffy. Wow look at Spike all heroic and going to die, her "I love you" at the end...must ponder...

Well, your thought there seems to be the general consensus from the comments. :)

I don't think Buffy's declaration is irrelevant. I love it, and I'm so happy she said it because it really rounds out Spike's character arc. But it's not the Spuffy scene for me in S7.

I like this list and how you summed up the poll. I'm not able to pick one favorite spuffy scene until I 've seen them again. :)
I guess that when they're in the arms of each other in Touched, when we shift from Spike holding Buffy to Buffy holding Spike ..that would be the most precious to me for it 's such a beautiful metaphor of their journey that it moves me and makes me burst with joy and breaks my heart at the same time.
I'm in the process of rewatching the whole series ( currently enjoying season 3 a lot more than I remembered having enjoyed it when it aired )

Word on the Touched scene. It is just gorgeous and so cathartic after the trauma that was S6 Buffy/Spike.

Number 5 has left me curious. I think it comes down to not really needing that scene from a fan perspective. Don't get me wrong, I think Buffy needed to say it, but she didn't need to say it for me. Or Spike for that matter. I think she needed to say it for herself. To acknowledge outloud what Spike and the fans had known for quite some time. Her admitting it was nice, but not a revelation. To her? Maybe. But not to me ( ... )

I didn't vote, but if I had, I think I would have passed over Chosen because for me it's not the big romantic culmination of the relationship. It's the last in a series of tragic miscommunications where the characters have one final chance to be on the same page emotionally and admit it to themselves and to each other... and they blow it, and both of them slip away from one another, failing once again to connect in a way that lasts. It's not the ship's apex, it's its death knell.

But I'm pretty much alone in that opinion.

Yes! You are not entirely alone. That series of tragic miscommunications is one of the (many) reasons that I became increasingly frustrated with S7, and the reason that the last Spuffy scene of the season that I actually like is their conversation at the end of "First Date."

Well, at least one person agrees with you. :)

I have a bit more romantic view on late S7 Spuffy, though, and I do see Buffy's declaration as the culmination of that. Though I also think that Spike did believe her so that probably alters my view quite a bit.

I also think that Spike did believe her

*nods* I agree with The Royal Anna on that one...
