2. Willow, especially high school Willow, is not the most forgiving person. "If I was larger and had grenades" and all that. But it's one hell of a verbal smackdown.

3. It's not really that Buffy Summers cannot ever leave the hellmouth, it's more that the show can't. If the central metaphor is fighting demons you face in life, then running from the place where the demons are just means running from yourself (as per "Anne"). So, in-story, Buffy probably could leave - there just wouldn't be much of a story left to be in. [/meta]

6. Smart? Probably not. In character? Most definitely. She wants to learn stuff that she can use. The big question is if it's deliberately a replay on Xander stopping for Jell-O in the previous episode...

1. Find a way to save Willow and keep the box - If I were the Scoobies I would have just attacked The Mayor once Willow had been traded over. Ok, so it’s dishonourable and a little risky (he had Faith and two vamps with him if I remember correctly?) but it’s no more dangerous than having to fight him once he’s ascended. I say just start an all out brawl in the cafeteria!

2. No. There’s always a way to come back - Though, I do think Faith was unreachable at this point in the story. There’s always a way, but I think Faith’s way was very dependent on The Mayor being out of the picture because there’s no way she was going to turn her back on that fatherly love and support. So I can actually understand where Willow is coming from. She really does seem totally lost by this point in S3.

3. Buffy is confined to the Hellmouth - Other slayers lived elsewhere but I’m pretty sure in Welcome to the Hellmouth Giles mentions how Buffy was sent there for a reason. And, yeah, episodes like The Wish and Bargaining demonstrate pretty effectively why ( ... )

1. The only drawback I can see is that the Mayor is invincible. Knowing that, I think they're smart in avoiding a direct confrontation with the guy.

2. Yeah. This question made me think, because I do think at this point - in this context - Faith is past the point of no return. However, one coma and a bodyswap later? Obviously not.

6. lol!

Yeah, I think in Faith's case, the only way to come back is by heading straight for the bottom and then coming back up.

1. It's hard because I do think that all of the lives lost at Graduation would have been saved if the Mayor didn't have that box for his ascension, but at the same time I love these characters because they could never be so coldly logical as to decide to forget Willow in order to save more lifes

I do think they were a bit harsh on Wesley though, at that time they had no idea if the ascension would be successful enough to destroy the entire town and kill everyone in school, in which case he kind of had a point in suggestng they stop and consider their options before giving the box straight back

Agreed all-around. I think trading for Willow was the right choice for the Scoobies. I don't think Wesley was in the wrong for bringing up the alternative options, though.

S3 Wesley has a outright talent for bringing up things that should at least be considered in a way that almost guarantees that they won't be seriously considered.

1. Trade the box. As later episodes prove, the box isn't the only way to win. Even if they'd saved Willow another way, I don't think the Mayor would have allowed them to keep the box. He's invincible and could just walk in their with a gun if he really needed to ( ... )

Specifically, he mentions Angel's immortality, allergy to sunlight, and curse as being insurmountable obstacles to them being together.

I never saw immortality as a big obstacle to a Buffy/Angel relationship. Yeah, he would stay the same. But realistically, there's not much chance a Slayer is going to live until she's 75, so the whole "I envy his youth" thing probably wouldn't end up being an issue, IMO. The curse is more of an issue.

I think it's an obstacle if they make it an obstacle.

I mean, relationships are never easy and they never match up perfectly. But if both parties are willing to work at it, then there's nothing - barring external forces - that counts as a true "obstacle".
